Teamwork Training and Combat Skills; Thursday, Second Period [12/12].

It would seem that someone had made a recent venture out onto the Isle of IKEA, and the spoils of that journey were now gathered there in the danger shop training room.

"There's a bit of an idea on this world," Gladio started, "apparently, that the true test of a relationship is the attempt to build pre-fabricated Swedish furniture together. If you're able to withstand that, there's a good chance you can withstand anything."

"I'm not entirely sure how much merit there may be to that claim," noted Ignis, "but it certainly does translate well into a teamwork building activity."

"And so," said Prompto, grinning proudly in a way that made it pretty clear which of them came up with this idea in the first place, "that's what we're doing today! We've got a lot of things here to build, and only vague instruction booklets based entirely on pictograms to show you how to do it! And we're going to see how many of these things you guys can manage to put together by the end of class!"

"While being attacked," said Gladio, grinning schemingly in a way that made it pretty clear which one of them came up with this addition, "randomly by holiday-themed monsters."

"With weapons," said Ignis, sighing resignedly in a way that made it pretty clear which aspects of this class none of them had prepared for, "that are all apparently candy canes today..."

"But hey," Gladio offered encouragingly, "at least they're big candy canes?"

"And I'm sure some of you could think of some really clever ways to put those hex keys to use, too!" Prompto chimed in and then bounced a little as he clapped his hands. "So let's get started!"

There's a good chance you probably figured out where this was going the moment you saw all that boxed furniture waiting to be built....

Furniture and monsters are all completely moddable, have at it and see what you can do while having to work with your classmates and fight the occasional angry Christmas elf or zombie reindeer with a candy cane!

Nell was shaking her head as she methodically put together a bookcase, which she might just be bringing home at the end of this event. And when an angry Christmas elf came at her, she stood, hands on hips and wagged a finger at him. "Unless you'un wants to build this thing, you'd best get your ownself out of here!"

It backed away. Slowly. Wouldn't you?

It's very clear that one of them was outvoted on this one.

Hey, at least it was a good distraction from being pouty about his swords all being candy canes right now. Those swords had meaning, okay?

And those candy canes were huge.

"Guess what?" Nell said brightly. "You get to carry the big bookcase home today!"

He could probably carry both her and the bookcase home, but she figured she'd do well to keep him distracted from the sword issue.

[Which, oh dear, I just found myself going, dear lord, I can't say THAT about his 'candy' swords!]

There was no sword issue! It was fine! His swords were fine!

"You sure about that?" Gladio asked, lifting an eyebrow at Nell. "You sure it's not 'you build it, you lug it?'"

Not that he minded,of course. He'd actually been hoping he could lug something home out of the pickings, but then where would he get the fun of playing along like he wasn't?

His sword was wonderful!

Er, swords. All of his swords that were currently candy cane. That's what the narrative was talking about. Yeah.

"Yep." Nell fluttered her eyes at him the way one of them silly ladies in a movie they'd watched did. "Poor little old me couldn't possibly carry it all the way home."

"Uh-huh," Gladio grunted dubiously. "And I'd bet good gil on the idea that if it were someone else telling you that you couldn't lug it, nothing could stop Poor Little Old You from hauling it out of stubborn spite, too."

Nell raised an eyebrow and just grinned at him. "Maybe. Maybe not."

Totally true.

"That's a funny way to say 'definitely,'" Gladio observed, and this time, his snort was undeniably amused, and he was just going to have to meet that look with a kiss. "But alright, fine. Since I'm such a gentleman and all, I'll drag it home for you, but I get to claim the top shelves."

Which he pretty much got to do already, really...

Nell rolled her eyes at him and laughed. "They're yours. 'Specially since there's no way I can reach the top without a ladder anyhow!"

She kissed him again. "See, I made sure you'd have something to carry!"

"Oh, there's definitely no lack of things I can carry," Gladio pointed out with a chuckle. "And if it's between you or a bookshelf, the bookshelf's gonna lose out every time."

"Ah, but can you carry me and the bookshelf at the same time?" Nell asked, knowing darn well, he could if he put his mind to it.

And wouldn't that be a sight through Fandom, Nell sitting pretty on top of a bookshelf Gladio was carrying through town.

"I could," said Gladio, dragging it out as he considered it carefully, scratching at his chin. "We could also piggy-back it. That'd be a little more balanced."

And also be pretty cute, too.

"Piggy back it?" Nell asked curiously. "Like you carry us both on your back?"

"Well, I was thinking I'd carry you on my back and the bookshelf in my arms," Gladio explained, with a smirk, "but if you really can't handle being parted from it even that much...."

"That could work," Nell said. "Or we could strap it to your back and you could carry me in your arms."

"And then you might need to soak in a hot tub and get a massage for your poor overworked self."

"You just can't get enough of these arms, huh?" Gladio asked, while flexing said arms and grinning unabashedly, but after a little posing, he did lean in for another kiss.

"But that does kind of sound perfect. I'm not as young as I used to be; I hate to admit it, but hauling that thing on my back? Definitely gonna feel that one in the morning..."

"I can't," Nell agreed and kissed him back. "And your poor back. I'll have to make sure to take good care of you."

"You always do," said Gladio, grinning at Nell now with that familiar warm glimmer in his eyes. "Better'n I deserve."

"Never better than you deserve," Nell said quietly. "You deserve all that is good in the world."

"Mmmmmmm." The considering, thoughtful hum was deep and rumbling, as Gladio squinted his eyes and looks askance as he considered this. Then, he nodded. "Nah," he said, "you're right. I am pretty awesome, I do deserve all that. And probably more, too, while we're at it."

And, with that cocky little bit of confidence, he bent over a little, to reach for Nell and sweep her right up in those arms she very reasonably couldn't get enough of.

"You sure we need that bookshelf?" he checked.

She eeped a little, then laughed. "You absolutely do if you want to get all that you deserve and that even more. But I'm curious to see you scoop up the bookcase when you're already holding me."

She squeezed his arms a little. "You are strong..."

The fact that some of those furniture items are kids' stuff might indicate that someone might have an ulterior motive with this class...

...if it weren't for the fact that Prompto was a building nerd and actually could do stuff like this all day if he could! Just, you know, by himself, because....yeah...

Well, Ignis was at least interested in hearing how this all went, as he sipped on some Ebony and pondered how this was not likely to ever be an issue for him. Not because they could likely just have zombies do the constructing if they really wanted to, but just because he could not imagine ever letting anything from IKEA into his life again....

Frugality should not be made at the expense of quality....

When you don't have a lot of time in the morning and one of your teachers is diametrically opposed to movie days, you get....IKEA DAY!!

lolol the idea of Ignis bringing something from Ikea home and presenting it to Liliana.

He wouldn't need to see her expression to feel it in his heart.
