fandomhigh | Photography Workshop [Week One]

Mindful that not everyone might have received her email, Veronica had hung some *handwavy* signs around the camp area directing photography students to the lecture hall where they were holding their first workshop.

As students entered, she handed out them a syllabus and a handout titled "Photography Basics" and directed them to the coffee and pastries courtesy of J,GOB.

Once everyone had arrived and was seated, she introduced herself.

"Good morning. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Veronica Mars. Please call me Veronica." There may have been a slight glare in Cam's direction at those words. "I just graduated from Fandom High and I've been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. Today is going to be an easy day. I want you to introduce yourselves to me and each other and I want you all to tell me why you signed up for this workshop." Another glare in Cam's direction and also one for Bel.

"If you brought a camera, I'd like to see it and approve it. If you need a camera, we'll get you set up with one. If you didn't get my email, I'd like to re-iterate that after this week, we will be developing photos in each workshop session, so please wear clothes that you don't mind having splashed with chemicals. After this week, we'll be meeting in the Journalism classroom so we can use the dark room. Last class will be back here and you're welcome to invite friends to that one."

She smiled at the group. "Let's start the introductions."

"What?" Bel said. "You expected some other reaction? Am I supposed to be bouncing like Blair over the news?"

"I'm just trying to decide if it's because you hate Logan or if it's because you're jealous that Angel has a friend at all."

"Why don't I just leave that to your imagination?" Bel snapped, turning away.

Veronica muttered something under her breath.

Bel paused and glanced back at Veronica, wondering if he'd heard her right.

Veronica didn't say anything when he glanced back, but the expression on her face probably confirmed that he'd heard what he thought he heard.

"Guess we got something in common then," Bel said.

Veronica nodded. "Yeah, guess so."

She shrugged. "Difference is I refuse to let it ruin my friendship, so I keep my feelings to myself."

The last statement was said in a surprisingly gentle tone.

"So did I," Bel said.

"But you can't let it get in the way," Veronica said. "If you react like that when you talk to Angel, he might figure it out or pull away if he thinks he hurt you."

"One, this is Angel we're talking about. He won't figure anything out. Two, he couldn't get much further away." Bel ticked off the points on his fingers. "Three, maybe I just won't talk to him then."

"Okay, I'll give you that he's probably going to remain clueless even if you spelled it out in four foot high flaming letters," Veronica conceded. "But I know his friendship means a lot to you. He stood up for you when you decided to be good."

"And then he left," Bel said simply.

"I know," Veronica said. "And it sucks. For all of us. Even him. But he felt like he had to. And what kind of friends would we be if we stood in his way?"

"I didn't!" Bel snapped. "But all that bullshit about him having to go alone was just that -- all lies."

Veronica sighed. "I don't know about you, but I feel better knowing he's not alone."

"And it's supposed to make me feel better that out of all people he took Logan with him?" Bel said. "Right."

"You know how he totally put himself on the line to help you?" Veronica asked. "That's what he's doing for Logan now. You, of all people, should at least be able to respect that, no matter how much you hate Logan."

"And I'm sure what he feels for him has nothing to do with it," Bel sneered. "He just wanted to help the poor little rich boy."

Veronica raised her eyebrows. "I didn't know you knew about that," she said.

"But honestly? Angel knows it's never going to happen and I really don't think it had anything to do with his suggestion."

"Right," Bel muttered. "Nothing at all."

Veronica wasn't sure how to reply to that, so she didn't say anything.

"You're not so sure yourself, are you?" Bel said.

"I'm sure that nothing will happen. I know Logan too well. But it is weird for me knowing that the guy I was crushing on has a thing for the guy I'm in love with."

"Yeah, funny how these things work out," Bel said bitterly.
