Food Field Trips, Friday 12/6, 2nd Period

Stark had just had something of a time in Summer’s class. Stark was regretting some life choices. Namely today’s choice of trip for his class in light of where they’d just gone.

“Today,” he said, “I arranged for us to visit The Taco Museum in Los Angeles ~~even if it doesn’t really open until tomorrow shhhh~~.”

Yes, he avoiding eye contact with Summer while he spoke. Having only one eye did make that somewhat easier.

“This is a new ‘pop-up’ museum so I’m not entirely sure what to expect there. Tacos, of course. The museum invites us to join them ‘in celebrating the art, culture, and joy of tacos.’ So…I assume there will be tacos for eating and enjoying in other ways as well. And hopefully we can all learn something about tacos as well.”

He looked around at the assembled students. “I hope everyone is hungry. Shall we go and enjoy some tacos?”

He winced a little even as the words left his mouth.

And, we assume, there’s going to be taco themed merch.

Did the fact that Summer was smirking and looking incredibly smug and proud of herself the whole time Stark was talking make it even more difficult for him to avoid eye contact? Did it?

The smugness was not likely to go away, either, as she set to check out the taco museum, and, oh, yeah, definitely enjoy some of those tacos, too.

Somehow that did make it more difficult. Weird.

"May I join you?"

They could enjoy tacos together. Awkwardly.

And that awkward formality was only going to broaden Summer's smirk even more, although some of the smugness seemed to make way for a bit of fondness.

"You may," she decided, with a firm nod and a magnanimous attitude as she slid her arm around Stark's to loop them together and lean against his shoulder a little. "And I think tacos are just the thing we need after coming out of my class, too. Don't you think?"

"I needed a drink after your class," Stark said. "Instead we have tacos. I didn't plan it!"

She knows that, Stark. You couldn't have planned it!

He shook his head a little and leaned against her. "I can't believe you took us there."

"It is a class about Weird, Wonderful and WTF things, Stark," Summer reminded him, in that sweet, sing-song voice of hers that she adopted when she clearly could do no wrong whatsoever and anyone who suggested otherwise was just a lame loser, obviously. "I'm pretty sure that place fit all of those categories. I'd be doing you all a disservice if I didn't!"

Her head tilted a little toward his. "The important thing is...did you at least learn something?"

"Oh, it was for my benefit?" Stark asked. "Not so you could watch me and others squirm?"

He turned his head to offer a slight grin. "It was very... educational. Enlightening."

And he'd gone to the gift shop. Of course he had.

"Did you learn anything?"

"Did you learn anything?"

"The squirming," Summer stated, "was just an added benefit. And you know what?"

She seemed to take a moment to consider it legitimately, which ended up knocking her smirk down slightly and causing her to shake her head because maybe she learned some things she rather wished she hadn't, but overall?

"I did. A lot of it was just confirming some things I already knew, but there were a few new things in there, too."

For better or for worse.

"Admit it, though," she then continued, "it may have been uncomfortable, but it was pretty cool, right?"

"It was definitely interesting," Stark agreed. "But I wouldn't have come here today if I'd known your plan!"

"Really?" Summer asked, eyes wide, head tilted, lips slightly pursed against the urge to spoil the attempted cluelessness with another smirk. "Why not?"

"Because I wouldn't have combined the trips on purpose."

It was much funnier if it was accidental! Also he wouldn't have set himself up like that.

"But...it's fine that I did, I think. Gives me things to think about."

Yeah, don't mind Steph looking terribly amused the whole time, and snickering occasionally like a very mature person.

So many adults taking things in in a very adult fashion today, right Steph?

Stark gave her a sheepish little smile when their paths crossed.

Steph smirked at him. "My guy, did you do this on purpose, or...?"

Stop being a brat, Stephanie.

"I came here on purpose," Stark said. "But Summer took us to Iceland first to the...penis museum...and then I was already coming here and it's much worse than I meant it to be!"

Steph clapped her hands together loudly enough to startle a nearby stranger, snorting with laughter.

"Get out. That's amazing, seriously. I love it."

Stark shook his head ruefully. "I wouldn't have put them together on purpose!"

Wait.

"The trips, I mean. Not...I should stop talking."

Maybe go get a taco to keep his mouth busy?

Steph had to cover her mouth to keep from howling with laughter this time.

"Look, sometimes you don't plan for these things to happen, but then they do and it's awesome, so --" Steph. No. No. Don't waggle your eyebrows. "Might as well just enjoy it."

STEPHANIE.

"I'll do my best," Stark said. "I'm sure Summer will have a wonderful time."

"Yeah, I bet," said an entirely unrepentant Steph, smirking. Like a terrible person.

Stark gave her a wide-eyed extremely innocent look.

"She likes tacos," he said, trying to maintain that look and not smirk. "We both do."

"As you should, they're one of the world's perfect foods," Steph replied easily. "I could go to town on them forever, probably."

Don't mind Vi, just innocently taking advantage of those all you can each tacos.

Steph looked over at her with a grin, pausing halfway through eating one of the tacos she was also taking advantage of to tell her, "I'd tell you that I hope you're saving some room for later, but I've met you and your appetite."

Vi wiped a stray bit of sauce off her mouth then licked her fingers, again, totally innocent.

"What can I say, I can't get enough of a good thing."

Steph snickered and moved closer so she could nudge her hip against Vi's and then just lean into her.

"You do have excellent taste, at least," she said, offering Vi a bite of her taco.

Was Vi going to act like they were in public and take the taco out of Steph's hands instead of leaning over to bite it? Sorry, everyone, you probably already knew the answer to that. "I mean, if anyone would know..."

"I am speaking as the resident expert on the subject, yes," Steph said loftily, no less insufferable as she fed Vi the taco.

Vi grinned at Steph as she straightened back up again. "The feeling is definitely mutual."

Girls, stop it, you were both insufferable.

"So I guess we have our dinner plans for when we get home after this." Steph grinned back at her, absently licking a bit of salsa away from the corner of her mouth.

And yet, they absolutely would not stop it.

Vi reached out to brush her thumb over her mouth, you know in case she missed a spot. "Yeah, I know exactly what I want to eat."

In front of everyone's salads, too.

At least their fellow classmates knew they were just Like This, but sorry not sorry to every other poor unsuspecting stranger here.

Because of course Steph kissed her thumb and reached up to catch her wrist, trying to hold her hand there. "Me too. It's a date, babe."

Did they consider every night a date by that logic? Maybe.

If it was a date every time Vi was over, then it didn't count towards moving in.

She didn't even try to get her hand free. "Can hardly wait."

Exactly. Because they hadn't done that.

Steph grinned and turned her hand to slide her fingers through Vi's.

"I get the feeling we won't be hungry for the rest of the night if they keep feeding us at this rate."

"But weren't they just talking about dinn--" someone nearby muttered before breaking into a coughing fit.

He's here and contemplating... tacos.

Kids are only here half the day today, yay.
