Principles of First Aid, Danger Shop, Morning, 5/23

Elliot is seated cross-legged on a table in the front of the Danger Shop, wearing a lab coat and looking only a little nervous. When most of the students have assembled, she begins.

"Hi, I'm Elliot Reid. You can call me Dr. Reid, or Elliot, or... just don't use the E.T. voice, or I will have to beat you senseless. And yes, it's a boy's name, I'm not a boy."

"We have a lot to cover if you guys want to be qualified for Red Cross certification at the end of the term. I'm handing out the syllabus, which I stole from Red Cross of Singapore. Because we only have so much time, I'm going to kind of skim a lot of this. I also have made up first aid kits for each of you; take them, use them, love them. If they get you in trouble, don't blame me."

"The basic idea of First Aid is to, you know, keep people from dying or becoming horribly disfigured on the spot. Now, if you don't know what you're doing, you end up hurting way more than you help. So first rule is, don't do anything until you have assessed the situation and called 911 if necessary. Even if you happen to be a doctor, you call 911. Got it?"

She glanced down at the syllabus.

"So anatomy is one of those things I'm going to skim. You have bodies. They have all kinds of funky things about them. If you want to know more, there's a good Web site for you to play with loaded on those computers over there."

"And now to the fun stuff." A little gleefully, she illuminated another section of the danger shop. Three small rooms came into view, each containing a Danger Shop-generated scene of chaos. "You guys have been divided into completely arbitrary teams. Each team should go to a scene, talk out what you're going to do if you want, and then each of you should demonstrate how you would react. I know it's early and it's summer, so don't wait for everybody if there are people missing from your group."

"And when you're done with that, come back and we will play with triangular bandages. They're useful, they're compact, and they make a really decent bikini if you're desperate."

[OOC: OCD is up. Play. The scenarios are like life-size dioramas; you can interact with them, but the people are just computer-generated models. Mod them as necessary.]

"Not really," Greg confessed. "But that one is so very earnest."

"Perfect for an early morning seranade," Isabel said, nodding. "It was an interesting wake-up call. Although fortunately I was already up when it began."

"Oh, darn," Greg said, frowning. "Then we failed in our mission. And the others didn't seem happy to see us."

"I can't imagine why they weren't happy." And then, eyebrow raised she asked, "Your mission was to wake me up?"

"That was my personal mission," he said. "I'm sure others wanted to wake the other girls. It seemed very important."

Isabel sighed, thinking it was a lot like dealing with Michael and Max when they were ten. "For the record? The next time something like that seems important? Leave the ducks and bring coffee."

"Still don't know what you mean about the ducks, but sure," Greg said. "How do you take your coffee?"

"If you say so," Isabel said. Her smile might have implied there's no way in hell she believed him, but she let it go for now. "I like it hot and sweet, preferebly with some sort of French vanilla flavor. Just so you know."

"I'll keep it in mind. You know, if it ever comes up again," he replied, knotting the bandage. "Not that it ever will, since we brave Stickbugs know better than to attempt to serenade the fair ladies of Meerkat again."

"Nope, I'm sure it never will happen again. Because the next time Aeryn is going to come out shooting," Isabel said firmly.

"She wouldn't shoot at someone who told her she's pretty," Greg pouted. "Plus John's her boyfriend, right?"

"Nobody said she'd kill them," she said seriously. "But she'd probably maim them a bit." Isabel stretched out her leg, testing the bandage. "So knowing about this might come in useful."

Greg totally wasn't admiring her leg. Really.

"Maiming's uncool," he said seriously. "We were just being nice."

"Like I said, you want to be nice? Bring coffee."
