Teamwork Training and Combat Skills; Thursday, Second Period [11/07

"We've been focusing quite a bit on the teamwork side of things," said Gladio, as class got started, and his was already holding his big giant sword over his shoulders, so you could probably guess where the rest of that sentence was going, "especially when it comes to strategy and communication, so today? We're going to focus a bit more on the combat side."

"But," Prompto chimed in cheerfully, "we're going to do it teamwork style!"

"Which means working on combat combos," Ignis continued smoothly. "Essentially, developing moves and techniques that find ways to take your strengths and the strength of your teammates and combine them into an effective fighting strategy. We'll take some time to break down some specific ideas, before working on cultivating individual methods based on your personal styles, but, for the most part, combat combos breaks down into three different types: blitz attacks, directional attacks, and finishers."

"A blitz attack is going to be an all out rush to the enemy with everyone giving it their all," Gladio explained further, "while a directional attack is a bit more stragized to have two or more people coming at an enemy from opposite or strategic directions. And, finally, a finisher is where your teammate sets you up to land one last devistating blow on your enemy. Or at least get close to it. Finishers," he added a grin, "tend to be my favorite kind.

"Of course," Prompto added, "there's a lot of variation and it's not just those. We'll show you a few examples of what we mean with our own personal styles and just a lot of combos we've developed from working together over the years, and then you guys'll take some time to warm up and then get together and think of any combos you can put together with your teammates! Practice them a little bit and then you can show them off! Pretty simple, right? So let's get started!"

Your instructors will break down the different approaches to combat combos in a little more detail, which includes things like them demonstrating examples with the cactuar dummy enemies, which will include things from simple boosts (Gladio, going in for a swing with his sword and then ending crouched down so that Prompto can run up, leap off his back, and send out a shower of bullets), something a little more involved (a shot in the chest from Prompto sending the dummy reeling back into Gladio's sword, which then pitches forward into one of Ignis' knives), and then some that seemed that they clearly took some time choreographing (shots from Prompto's gun in perfect rhythm with the slices from Ignis' knives as the latter moves around the enemy).

At some point, there was even some tossing, Gladio launching Prompto up to match with Ignis springing into the air with help from his lance so that both of them could come crashing down on the enemy with shots and spears.

"Needless to say," Prompto laughed a little after that last one, "you can have some pretty good fun with it!"

Take some time to warm up with your preferred weapons of choice, and then work with your fellow classmates at developing some combat combo techniques that might work well for your particular set of skills. They can be relatively simple between just two people or very complex that manages to bring in several members of the team. Try to get creative and see what you can come up with!
