Campfire Stories & Songs #1, 5/23/06, Main Campfire, Evening

Lyta Alexander
Pip Bernadette
Hamlet Dane Jr
Demyx
Timothy Desmond
Walter Dornez
Jude Lizowski
Greg Sanders
Nadia Santos

Ted had had a little trouble starting a contained fire at first, but by the time the workshop started after the sun went down, the fire was blazing and the marshmallows were out. Ted had a Twinkie on the end of his stick and was roasting it.

"Evening, dudes! I am Ted 'Theodore' Logan and I'll be your most esteemed workshop instructor dude for this workshop. You can call me Ted or Professor Ted or whatever you want. The workshop is pretty simple. I like simple. I bring the food, you bring the stories.

Each week a different person will tell a story. I'll get you dudes to sign up for a week before you go tonight. Some people will need to double up, so if you wanna tell a story with a partner, you can totally do that. Then at the end of each workshop, we'll end with a song. Is that not excellent?"

Ted cleared his throat. "So. Your stories can be anything you want - personal experience, something you heard, something you read. Anything you want. Tonight I want you to start by introducing yourselves, tell us where you're from, what kind of stories you like and what kind of music you're into."

After that was done, Ted started to tell his story. "This one's a love story for all you romantic dudes and dudettes out there."

"Okay, so, once upon a time there was this dude named Jack. His best friend was Spide...Bug. Let's call him Bug. So Jack and Bug were best friends and they were in England and were playing a poker game against these Swedish dudes. Jack won the hand and it turns out that in with the money were two tickets on a ship to America. So they grabbed all the stuff that Jack won and ran and got on the ship.

So then this dude Jack, he sees this totally classy babe named Sarah. She was way pretty, I think, but she had a thing for guns, so it was kinda weird, but in a totally hot way. ANYWAY. So then Sarah got into this fight with some dude who totally dissed her shoes, and he jumped off the ship to get away from her, and Sarah was gonna jump in after him just to kick his ass, but Jack stopped her with some lame story about the water being cold and he threatened to jump in after her. Because she wanted the fight on her own, and didn't want to share it with Jack, she said 'I won't then!' and Jack was all 'Okay then!' and Sarah was all 'Fine!' and Jack was all 'Right.' And Sarah totally wanted to get the final word in, but Jack made her be quiet by kissing her.

And then they kissed some more and there was lots of kissing and steam and, um, stuff I'm not supposed to mention because I'm a PG-13 teacher, and then the ship HIT AN ICEBERG!

So then the ship's sinking, it's sinking, and it's all sad and everything because people are drowning and the rock band is playing Metallica while the ship goes down, and then BUG COMES TO THE RESCUE! He tore up part of the deck with his BARE HANDS and Jack, Bug and Sarah got on it and then the ship went down and the deck-raft floated away and then it looked like they were gonna die, and then they came to an island and they were SAVED.

So then they set up a school and pretended they were all too cool for each other and then left and I dunno what happened to them, but I'm totally sure they all lived happily ever after. THE END."

"I'm Nadia Santos. I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I like ghost stories. And indie music. Um, and sometimes I play the guitar."

Re: Introduce Yourselves

"I'm Walter Dornez from London, England. I like spooky stories and music from World War II."

"I'm Pip Bernadette, and I'm from everywhere, but originally I'm from France. I like all kinds of music, especially stuff with rockin' guitar. As for stories... spooky and romantic are my favorites."

Re: Introduce Yourselves

"My name's Tim Desmond, from New York. I've got a pretty eclectic taste in music, and I've gotten rather fond of Faerie Tales."

"Dudes - and girl-dudes - I'm Jude. Lizowski. From Toronto, up in Canada. I like funny stories, especially if they involve zombies or hockey, and my favourite kinda music is," here he threw up the horns, "Rock!"

"I'm Greg Sanders from San Gabriel, California, and I like stories with happy endings," he said seriously. "That's pretty much it. Much hate for purple prose, though."

Lyta paused briefly, unsure of what to say. Everyone else had been so specific -- cities and countries. Sure, she was from Earth, but that had ceased to be her home a long time before. "I'm Lyta Alexander. I...spent most of my life in Syria Planum," she said slowly. "My taste in music is pretty diverse. I think I have some old fashioned blues, some rock, some classical..." She shrugged. "As far as stories go, I like anything with a happy ending."

"Uh...I'm Demyx. I'm not from around here, I play sitar, and I don't know very many good stories - but Xigbar, I knew that eyepatch was fake!" He stared at Ted with wide blue eyes. "I like what you've done with your hair, too. It suits you well. But c'mon, Xigbar, you know I like rock music most of all!"

Re: Introduce Yourselves

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-05-24 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm Hamlet Dane Jr, and I am from Elsinore, Denmark. As of late, I have found myself interested in the sorts of music defined as being "emo". And I prefer stories with realistic endings, no matter how gruesome they may be."

Re: During Ted's Story

[identity profile] grand-fallguy.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim having never seen Titanic, was oblivious to the paralells, except that he knew there was a ship that hit and iceberg a long time ago and supposedly Chivalry died that night.
The story itself wasn't all that engaging, but Ted's enthusiastic telling of it, and his amusing way of speaking more than made up for that.

Jude was chuckling, even if he didn't quite get the end bit. "Duuuuude! That's awwwwwwwesome!"

Nadia surreptitiously passed both Walter and Pip notes:

Squirrel meeting for planning mischief in handwaved secluded spot tonight after workshop. I'm making stew. Tell no one.

Pip's had an addendum to it.

I need to talk to you about something privately. Perhaps after the meeting?

Walter took the note, read it, and tossed it in the campfire with a nod for Nadia.

Pip looked at the note and slowly nodded. He slipped back one of his own.

Where?.

Away from people and shrubs. Nadia wrote back. Then, after a moment's thought: but not because either of us is likely to get violent.

Hamlet had never seen the late 90s film about the Titanic, but he still felt that there was something very odd about Professor Ted's story. And that the characters in the story somehow sounded very familiar...

Yes, he probably wrote 'dude' on the sign-up sheet.

Greg snagged Week 5. It was a nice number.

Lyta signed up for week 7. It would take that long to psych herself up...and change the names to protect the innocent.

Demyx picked 6....since it was the last one left Zexion's number, and he liked Zexion.

Re: Sign Up To Tell Your Story

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-05-24 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing as all the number were taken, Hamlet decided to sign up for Week 4. Being in the middle seemed like a good spot.

You know you've been watching too much Stargate when...

...you notice that it's Jack and Sarah, and immediately think of the first season.

Great PG-13 kinda story, though. ::grins:: Ted's probably like DH -- thinking the ship sinking was the coolest part of the movie.

[identity profile] electric-sitar.livejournal.com 2006-05-24 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
OMG I hate that I had to work all day!!

And um...yeah. Xigbar and Ted are so alike it kills :x Don't mind Demyx, though...he's a spaztard >_>;
