Food Field Trips, Friday 10/11, 2nd period
“Today’s trip is to Louisiana,” Stark said once everyone was gathered in the usual place, “to a place called Avery Island where they make Tobasco® sauce. Which is spicy I think so if you don’t like spicy you may want to be careful when tasting it.”
“While we’re there we’ll learn about the history of the TABASCO® Brand and see how the sauce is made and there’s an opportunity to sample sauces and to view the peppers being grown for the sauces. More as well, I’m sure, and then there is a restaurant and a gift shop, of course.”
There was always a gift shop.
“Oh, and there’s the Jungle Gardens to enjoy as well. Plants and wildlife. If everyone is ready we can go?”

This Week's Field Trip [10/11]
Guided tours are available or you can explore on your own.
The first stop on the tour is the Tabasco Museum where you can learn about the history of the brand and the family that started it. Stop 2 is a visit to the greenhouse peppers. Stop 3 is the Barrel Aging Cooperage where you can get a peek at the pepper mash aging process. From there you’ll move on to Stop 4, the Blending Room. The blending process takes 28 days.
Stop 5 is the Avery Island Exhibit where you can learn what makes this spot the ideal one for making these sauces. Next up is Stop 6, the Salt Mine. Where you can be salty. Stop 7 takes you to the bottling line where the sauces are, you guessed it, bottled. Stop 8, Tabasco Today, will offer information about how the brand is utilized today in kitchens around the world.
Next up, naturally, is The Country Store gift shop for all your sauce and merchandise needs.
with an EU link because I can’t find another one. Finally there’s a restaurant called Restaurant 1968. Some students may not find anything suitable on the menu but the fries should be safe even for the vegans? Or maybe the salads can be made vegan?
