Treat Yourself, Thursday, Period 2

Another quick meeting outside of Portalocity and then they were once again off to a different restaurant, Bocados Tapas Wine Bar. They were led inside and seated at their table, with platters of tapas immediately being brought out to them the moment they were seated.

"The point of indulgence is to make your life enjoyable, like a small - or not so small - gift you're giving yourself," Liliana said, gesturing at everyone to start eating their various moddable from the menu tapas. "And one of my favorite indulgences is going new places and trying new things. Travel, if not otherwise mandated by a higher authority - for example, class - is an indulgence, and often an expensive one, though seen in a different light than most others. This is especially true if the place you are going isn't a sandy beach somewhere you're expected to lounge. But travel isn't something required to survive. Even the reasons travel is listed as beneficial - getting to enjoy new experiences, broaden your horizons, learn about different cultures - none of that is necessary. So why is it seen in a different light than other indulgences?

"Enrichment and fulfillment can come in many different forms is the joy of discovering new things. It opens door that you never knew were closed, and helps you gain a fuller understanding of the place you're in. And when you can combine that new experience with something you already enjoy, for example, eating, it gives you a place to start, rather than getting overwhelmed by the experience. So my challenge to you today, above and beyond my questions, is to try a dish you've never had before and sample it. Savor it. Do you like it? Dislike it? Why?"

She sat back in her chair. "A simple lesson today. Please help yourselves if you haven't already."

"For me travel is easy and fun, so it's not so much of an indulgence as it is for people who have to save up for it or put other things aside to be able to do it," Charlie said. "But I do 'indulge' in it quite often."

Said the person who could simply Walk anywhere in no time at all and come home to sleep in her own bed if she chose.

"They're all indulgences and every single one of thos is something I'd never even have had the chance to try if I hadn't gotten swallowed up by a portal and ended up here when I was fifteen," Nell said.

"I believe," said Ignis, after a moment to savor a small morsel, "that what sets travel apart from other indulgences is that it often requires a resource that some....especially," he smiled a bit here, "those without such convenient access to things like portals or immortality," not that the latter in particular had been on his mind lately, or anything, "...might consider even more precious and valuable than any monetary requirement, and that us time. It is one thing to be able to set aside an hour or two or even a day to go enjoy a visit to a psa, quite another to make the arrangements to carve out the days, or weeks, or even a month to truly enjoy traversing to another place entirely removed from your usual haunts."
