More Earth Tourism, Tuesday

Lana greeted them all today looking a little more serious than she had previously. "I've been trying to see that we get a variety of Earth experiences - nature, cities, and so forth. Today we'll be visiting a city. A very busy, very distracting city. Before we go, I want you all to group up - groups of two or more, whatever works for you, but you will keep track of each other and not wander off. I don't want to have to hunt down anyone after this is over. Some of you are welcome to group with me, if you like."

She made sure they were paying attention and grouping up, then nodded in satisfaction and led them through their portal to the Las Vegas strip. She squinted in the bright sun; it didn't look much like Nar Shaddaa at the moment; she'd take that as a good thing.

"Las Vegas is a well-known city in the United States, known largely for its gambling and entertainment options, a good number of which are located on this one street. Keep in your groups, please, and stay aware of your surroundings; it's supposed to be relatively safe, but with this many distractions, you can't rule out pickpockets or other problems. Most of the large buildings here are casinos, or hotels with casinos. If you're not interested in gambling, many of them also offer excellent restaurants, and some have other attractions." She passed out a brochure. "Many of which involve viewing it from heights," she added with a smile, since several of the students seemed to enjoy that sort of thing.

"Also, please be mindful of this heat!" She passed out bottles of water and sunscreen. "Stay hydrated. Stay safe. Meet me back here at the end of class."

Lydia immediately popped her parasol open as she looked about for one of her friends to pair up with. She was too English for this place.

Also, Wickham must never be allowed to find out about it. So many gambling dens in one place, and it was hot? No. Absolutely not.

"How do you feel about heights?" Arden asked.

Lydia had to admit that, "I haven't any experience of them, outside of Mr. Stark's tower," which, relatedly, she thought of as 'heights.'

Mmm, better to start small maybe. Well. Relatively.

She pointed up to the Ferris wheel. "How would you feel going on that>"

"I don't know," Lydia admitted. "I could certainly try..."

And hopefully not discover acrophobia at the top.

"Okay, y'all," Arden said with a grin. "Who's getting married by Elvis and who's joining me for a spin on the High Roller?"

"Oh, I'm in!" Charlie said.

"Notice you didn't specify which!" Arden laughed.

"Hey, if you want Elvis to marry us, I'm all for it," Charlie teased, "Or if you want to marry Elvis I'll stand up for you. The High Roller is totally calling my name, though. Yelling it even."

Eleanor's heart dropped into her stomach a little as Miss Beniko said, right out the gate, to group up. She was just sort of hoping to get ahead of the inevitable after yesterday and just sort of disappear into the crowd for a little bit by her own, but now? Ugh.

"Eleanor!" Arden called, waving her over. "I'm trying to put together a group on the High Roller. You in?"

"Oh," said Eleanor, her attention shifting away from where she was thinking that if Miss Beniko didn't want one incredibly awkward student shadowing her the whole time, she shouldn't have decided they should be going in groups, to Arden, who she should have expected would try to include her. Kamala must not have talked to her yet. She shook her head lightly. "No, thank you. I...I'm not very good with heights."

"Miss Zarrin!" Lydia exclaimed. "Miss Zarrin, do tell me you don't want to do zip lining and will come with me to look at a floral exhibit and perhaps get doughnuts while these fools risk their lives."

Why yes, Lydia had been looking up things to do in Vegas on TikTok, why did you ask?

"Oh." Eleanor was so distracted by plotting her potential disappearance that she hadn't been paying close enough attention to all the pieces on the board. She blinked at Lydia a little in surprise, quickly trying to work out if this was some sort of trap, and then telling herself she was just being paranoid.

But, all things considered, experience told her that, no, she wasn't.

"You can just call me Eleanor," she offered, "if you wanted. But...yes, actually. Floral exhibits are much more my speed than pipelines. That's a...really good suggestion, actually, thank you."

Don't be silly, Eleanor. Lydia was really not cunning enough for traps.

"Splendid!" she cried, making to link her arm with Eleanor's so they could share the shade of her parasol. "And you really must call me Lydia. We'll have a lovely time not careening about over the streets."

Maybe not, but Eleanor thought Kamala probably could be, and she may have put Lydia up to it! Sending Arden might be too obvious, and, besides, she and Arden would want to be able to laugh about it together on that ferris wheel.

She continued to be a bit startled as Lydia linked their arms together, but she had to admit, if she was being lead into some sort of embarrassing trap, then at least the shade of her parisol was a welcome silver lining.

"I'm sure Miss Beniko wouldn't allow for it if it wasn't safe," she pointed out, "but I'm with you. I'd much rather keep my feet on thr ground. And maybe we can learn something useful at the exhibit, too."

"And I believe the exhibit may even be..." Lydia leaned in as if sharing a confidence, "air conditioned, which seems quite necessary to me, at least." Imagine wanting to be outside in these conditions, and all so you could zipline. Couldn't be Lydia.

The trap was named 'friendship and air conditioning.'

Well, Eleanor didn't know much about either of those things!

But she did know enough about air conditioning by now that her interest in this floral exhibit did surge substantially.

"Oh, that does sound pretty nice," she admitted. "It's so hot! I guess it makes sense, too, wouldn't want the flowers all wilting in the heat like the people trying to see them."

In falling for the 'friendship and air conditioning trap,' Eleanor would now be subjected to...friendship and air conditioning! While looking at flowers, and then getting doughnuts. Truly, Lydia was the wickedest of girls.

"I do believe I may actually melt like a piece of cheese if we stay out here much longer," Lydia agreed.

Go wild! Play slot machines or poker, visit flamingos, zip line over the strip (y'all know who you are), enjoy! Stay together, stay hydrated, stay safe.

Arden wanted to do exactly two things, and neither of them were gamble. High Roller and zipline baby, heights all the way.

Charlie was all for that. "Happy to join you in the thrills, Arden!"

Arden stuck her fist out for a bump. "Trying go get a group together for the High Roller."

"Yes!" Charlie exclaimed and grinned at her. "I'd say I could charm people into it, but Gale rules day you only use charms like that on other Gales. A rule I'm sure the Aunties break when they feel like it."

Well, she is inside. She'll be checking out Just because she spent most of her childhood in a desert doesn't mean she's eager to be back in one, especially in summer.

Lana is rather relieved at how little like Nar Shaddaa this place is.
