There were no cloches waiting on the counter in front of Summer this week. Was that a good thing? Should you be worried? If you were asking yourself either of those questions, then Summer would feel like her work here was truly done. However, according to the schedule, her work here was definitely not done, as there was still one last class, and so....

"Thank you all," she said, "for going on this weird banana journey with me. By now, I'm hoping you've all had some newfound knowledge and respect for all the weird shit people used to do to bananas...and probably still do to this very day!...and that maybe you've been inspired to do some weird shit to bananas....in the kitchen, this is absolutely not that kind of class...yourself.

"On that note, I would like to divert your attention to this page I've copied out for you from a 1955's cookbook from Michigan. It's going to be difficult, but please ignore the enticing prune recipes on the bottom, because we're going to focus, naturally, on the suggested variations for baked bananas today instead. Because I'd like you all to pick one to make and try and share with the others for yourself.

"You can deviate from the suggestions, of course, especially since some of these are honestly not that bad, and if you've got an idea to really impress us with your What-the-Fuckery, I'd love to see it. So you can play it safe, you can go a little more extreme, or you can make your own unholy baked banana concoction, but the point is to find one that speaks to you and then see how it goes.

"Pretty simple, but honestly? A good way to close out the class, if you ask me. Take a few minutes to look over the suggestions, get inspired, and then we'll get to baking some bananas."

In the mood for banana curry? Or just fucking around with other fruits? How about those prunes, though??

Take some time to figure out what baked banana you want to slap your name on and present to the class, and get ready to discuss your inspiration or just let it exist without further commentary if that's more your style.

Well, if the bananas were baked and served with sour cream, why not added bacon and cheddar cheese and pretend they're potatoes?

Steve's head was a messy place this week.

Summer considered what Steeeeve was working on there, and tilted her head with a fascinated sort of inspiration.

"Huh," she said, once she realized what he was doing. "You know, this is opening up a whole world of possibilities in just taking potato recipes and replacing them with bananas...."

Scalloped bananas? Creamy banana soup? Banana shepherd's pie?

Oh, there were so many possibilities!

"Since plantains get used like potatoes, and bananas are close to plantains, I thought it made sense," Steve said, nodding.

"I feel like that is absolutely the right lesson to be taking away from this class," said Summer with a nod. "Nice work, Steeeeve."

She'd expect no less from, really.

"Thank you," Steve said with a smile. "And happy belated birthday."

"Awwww!" Summer beamed, clearly pleased that he'd thought to say something, although, again, she'd really expect no less from him. "Thank you! It was a really good one and I had a lot of fun. Everything a person could ask for, really: bar hopping, almost starting a Taylor Swift turf war, horseback riding in another country, making my own whiskey, a stupid amount of spa time, and, most importantly, it didn't fall on Father's Day this year!"

"That sounds perfect for you," Steve said with a smile. "Which other country?"

"Stark and I went to Ireland this weekend," Summer reported happily, sending a pleased and appreciative smile his way. "We've been talking about it pretty much since Stm Patrick's Day and he finally actually followed through."

You know, only three months later! But holding put for a big birthday blowout wasn't the worst choice, either!

"Well, it's only been three months," Steve said with a little smile. "It can take time to plan a trip. I'm glad you liked Ireland, though! That's where my parents immigrated from."

Summer had to snort a little; Steeeeeve had a point. That was practically lightning speed for Stark to actually take initiative, so...

"Yeah," she then said, after tilting her head to look him over a little, "I can see how that tracks. I always figured I've got someone down the line from there somewhere. I mean, Smith?" She gestured at her head. "This? I'd be shocked if not."

Steve laughed. "Are you saying your family might've left under less than honest circumstances and picked a new name?" he teased.

Stark was going to try the brown sugar recipe. It seemed safe! And maybe good. And there could be whipped cream on top. And maybe it could go on top of ice cream...

Curried bananas sounded good. But what about curried bananas, apples, and pineapple with sausage?

Look, you were lucky Hannibal hadn't yet gotten snake meat from his other class.

She's personally going for deciding on her own what exactly 'hot orange sauce' would constitute and making that, with the intention of absolutely putting it in jello.

"These recipes were far too reasonable," Stark said. "Are you all right?"

Summer gave Stark a wry look and a roll of her eyes. "They're supposed to be just jumping off points," she explained. "I didn't want to squash anyone's creativity to just get to do something really weird on their own volition."

Then, there was....a pause.

"Plus, I ran out of the really fucked up ones way sooner than I thought I would," she admitted.

"What if I just want to be calm and reasonable in my recipe? It'll go well on ice cream. I think."

He grinned at Summer.

"You still came up with some horrifying things this time. Very horrifying."
