Photography Basics: Color - Monday, Second Period [06/10].

"I'm sure you'll all be very shocked to hear this," said Prompto, unable to help himself from grinning as he got class started that day, "but we're going to begin by looking at your green photos from next week. And...it's probably a good thing you're already sitting down for this, but then, we're going to be talking about our next color focus, which is going to be blue. I know, right?" He chuckled a little bit. "Just full of surprises around here."

Honestly, the set-up for this class didn't really leave a lot of room for creature structure, but, hey, if it wasn't broke? Don't fix it! And that meant all the creativity could go into the photos themselves!

"So, then, let's get into it! Who's ready to step up first and try to make their classmates green with envy with their green shots?"

Green's a great focus color, especially during late spring/early summer! So let's see how you brought the color green to life in your own photographs by showing off some of your best shots from the week!

The centerpiece of Arden's green period was a large splotch of green paint over what, if looked at closely, appeared to be a jumpsuit of some kind.

And, considering the paint spattered on her chin and hands, she wasn't feeling even a little bit guilty about taking that picture.

And, continuing with the expected course of the lesson, Prompto was ready to start breaking down for everyone use of the color blue in photography, it's various meanings and effects, with plenty of pictures to prove the points. Examples included modern ones, like Erik Madigan Heck's Blue Pool and The Evening Close, but also an old cyanotype from the mid-19th century from Anna Atkins, Confervae, showing how blue was used as one of the virst ventures into color, incidentally, through the processing technique itself. Then Jon Cimon's Warburg's Margate Beach Blue Girl from 1915, not as blue as some of the other pictures, but a good exampe of an early way of making that color pop.

As well as a bunch of others not being broken down individually because someone is really bad at time management, and Prompto's personal....well, favorite wasn't quite the right word, but definitely one that meant the most to him...was a shot that focused on the blueness of his and his daughter's eyes together while taking selfie focused in on that while on their living room floor.
