Camping 101; Friday, 3rd Period [06/07].

"We're actually not going to be heading into the preserve like usual today," Gladio admitted with an apologetic smile, especially since it was pretty clear that their little walk in the woods to the campsite was pretty big highlight of the class so far, "but we will be gearing up and taking a bit of a walk all the same. You'll notice," he gestured toward the waiting packs, "that today's gear is also a little bit different, because today, we're going to start going into some various camp-adjacent activities, and it's been a good week for fishing, so that's what we're going to focus on today."

He paused, for the expected groan he'd be hearing from Prompto at this news (or from anyone else, for that matter), and grinned faintly.

"We'll go into it more when we get on location," he said, "but, in the meantime, grab a pack, and we'll hike our way on over to Selkie Lake and start casting lines."

A hike through the town you're all fairly familiar with to get from the preserve down to Selkie Lake might not be as appealing in nature, but with all those stairs, there's no denying you're still getting in a good workout with the march!

O Walk Through Nature, how do I love thee, let me count the ways.

One (fuck this stair in particular)
Two (fuck this stair in particular)
Three (fuck this stair in particular)

(and so on.)

And, once they arrive at the lake, it's time to start going through your gear as Gladio leads you through hopefully everything you'll need to know as a beginning angler. How to set up your rod, how to cast your line, what to do if you actually get a bite...

"Now," he said, once he finally got to that point, "important thing about fishing, especially when you're camping, is that it's a pretty passive--"

"Boring!" Prompto shouted out helpfully, and Gladio snorted.

"--okay, yeah, and boring activity, more often than not. Especially this time of day, the fish really aren't biting much, so it's a lot of sitting around and waiting for something to happen. Which means it's also a good time to just sort of relax, enjoy a nice day, and enjoy the company you're keeping. Especially since....sometimes, you're not always going to have a nice late morning or afternoon to just get a few of your friends together and sit around and do nothing but spend time together. So, whenever you can, it's really important to not take that for granted."

He gave the class a soft sort of smile and a moment to just let that linger before he clapped his hands together and started toward the shore. "Alright, then! Enough yammering! Let's see if anyone can actually manage to catch one of these suckers."

Arden had no real interest in fishing, but oh how she wanted to go swimming. The water looked so cool and inviting...

Prompto was sending glares over at Gladio the whole time, or at least attempting to. He had to admit, it was hard to be too made about it when Noctra was clearly thrilled to be fishing, especially since Gladio had included a little toy fishing set in the gear just for her.

So, yeah, no, the fishing was going to wait, Prompto was just going to take pictures of the tiny little angler instead.

The way her face got so serious after she cast her line was almost way too much, man!

"I am perfectly capable of doing nothing without a fishing rod," Jon noted.

It was a total lie. He was terrible at doing nothing, with or without a fishing rod.

If he's not careful, he's almost going to make it sound like he actually does enjoy fishing after all!

After class, Nell (who had caught a fish and carefully thrown it back) waited for Gladio so they could walk to their next class together.

"Looks like you got yourself a good catch," Gladio noted, nodding to Nell and still pretty amused that she'd let the fish go back, but his grin was for a different reason.

"The fish, I mean," he clarified, then laugh, "although, well..."

Did he need to say it? He didn't need to say it. Especially since he could be swooping down to give her a kiss instead.

"I'm just hoping I son't get in trouble," Nell teased, "cause you're way over the legal limit, so I should've thrown you back!"
