Earth Tourism, Tuesday 5th period

"Welcome back, everybody," Lana said, nodding to them. "Today we're going to another continent on Earth. There is a country called France, and its main city is Paris. There's too much to ever see an entire city in our limited time, of course, so we'll be visiting one of its notable tourist sites, the Eiffel Tower. It was built about one hundred thirty-five years ago by a man named Gustave Eiffel, hence the name. It's apparently a very good way to see the city, so long as you're not afraid of heights. If you are, feel free to stay on the first two floors; there are food and shops on each floor."

She'd be going to the top, of course.

"The primary language there is French. My research indicates that a good percentage of the locals can speak our language, but that many of them refuse to, so I'd advise you not to wander too far."

She handed out their tickets and led them through the portal.

"I think so," she said. "That's what the trip to New Zealand was like! I mean, we couldn't see all the things, but there were tours and exciting things to do everyday and usually most nights, too! That's how I got to be close to folks - I was Graham's roommate and there was a group chat and so whenever somebody was doing fun, they'd text the whole group and folks who were interested would show up and we'd do it together."

She sighed, pretending to be aggrieved, though her smile kept peeking out from around the edges. "So if you ever hear Charlie giving me shit about the world's snuggliest kiwi, it's from that trip."

Such a better mood than last week. Inexplicable, of course.

Yeah, Cal was in much higher spirits this week too, so strange. "So, it sounds like I have to keep signing up for classes so I can get in on one of these trips," he said. "That was always the most appealing thing about being a Jedi, being able to travel to even the outer reaches of the galaxy to support the people in different worlds." That future didn't happen, of course, but his love for travel hadn't faded.

"One trip each fall and spring semester," Arden said. "This past spring, we went to some kind of space resort, but it got wrecked so we ended up at a space theme park instead. It was very weird, and goddess only knows where we'll end up next."

"Awww, a space theme park would have been so fun. I'll just have to look forward to the future." Something else Arden mentioned clicked to him. "Wait, you were Graham's roommate? They let guys and girls room together?"

You only said that because you hadn't been to the Astrotorium, Cal. You didn't know about Ashiok's Perfectly Safe Ride For Children and Babies.

"Let?" Arden laughed. "They assigned us the room together. I'd met him once before at a speed dating event thing at Caritas? And I knew him from classes? But we weren't really friends. Not until that trip anyway."

Oh, well, that was good to know, for absolutely no reason at all.

"You make friends so easily, it's an admirable quality," he said. "It sounds like you all had fun though. We need more views like this in Fandom. Or, places like this where we can look around without me feeling like I'm going to get in trouble for climbing up."

"I have yet to see anybody get in trouble for anything," she said, while inwardly glowing at the compliment to her admirable quality. Hell, even someone thinking she had that admirable quality was appreciated. "But that's why I hang out on the roof of Midnight so much. It's not very high but at least it's up." She gave it some thought. "...You ever considered climbing the school?"

"Yes," Cal said immediately. "The top of that tower keeps calling to me just begging to be explored. There's got to be something up there, right? Even if it's just old school things?"

Arden glanced at Professor Beniko. At their classmates. Sidled up a little closer to him. "...You wanna?"

On one hand, Cal was supposed to be a good influence on others, to lead people as a bastion of righteousness throughout the galaxy. On the other hand... unexplored tower!

"I mean, we might get into trouble if we get caught. But if people don't usually get into trouble, maybe no one will care." Anakin would definitely care, but maybe he'd never find out.

Oh no, what was Anakin gonna do? Dress Arden up in dumber outfits than an inflatable sumo wrestler's costume and a hot dog shirt?

"No paintball means no victory dinner, right?" she asked with inexorable 'logic.' "No victory dinner means some free time. Free time means time to explore. Time to explore means...?"

"Time to see how your climbing skills hold up. Or are you just going to watch me and be my spotter?" Cal asked with a laugh. "How do you see this going?"

"I...huh." She was starting to see the flaw in her plan. "I guess the spotter thing." She did not seem enthused. "I sorta forgot that for this to happen, I should probably have a little more climbing experience than just the occasional tree. Hmm."

She had absolutely no useful skills, did she? Ugh.

"Well, we could use this as climbing experience on the lower parts, and then you can just hold onto me on the higher parts. You're not afraid of heights, right?" That would be just about the saddest thing he could think of for someone with an affinity for air.

Arden waved over the open air of the highest section of the tower. "Do I look I'm afraid of heights?" she asked, laughing. "Probably my hands down best experience in Fandom was when Gray - have you met Gray? - took me flying! He princess carried me up in his arms and we did loops and spins and it was amazing!" Her eyes shone as she remembered the flight.

"So, actually, that sounds like a great idea, just...I won't be too heavy? I don't want to make us fall because you're backpacking me..."

Cal might have had a little more confidence than necessary, but that was also very much a part of the Jedi Code, somewhere deep down. "You're not heavy at all," he said. "I'm used to having BD back there, so it should be fine, as long as you don't get nervous and just keep holding on."

Was he a little jealous of this Gray guy? Nooo, not at all. Was he going to prove he was just as cool anyway? Absolutely.

Gray did have very cool wings, it was true.

"Yeah, you don't have to worry about me getting nervous," Arden said. "But - oh! I'm not gonna displace BD, right?" she asked, a little worried. "Will he be able to hang on to me? Or snuggle between us?"

Because, like, she really wanted to go climbing, but she would feel guilty about forcing BD to not get to go, either.

"BD can hang onto you, or he can be our security on the ground, to distract anyone who might try to stop us," Cal suggested. "He's been with me on a lot of climbs, and he might actually prefer the ground."

He wasn't going to mention that was because Cal was often getting shot at while he climbed things, because that seemed like unneeded information."

Was it, Cal? Was it?

"Well, if he wants to come, we'll figure out how," Arden said firmly. No Droids Left Behind, dammit. "He might want to be with us as we are the first people in years, maybe generations, to discover what's in that tower."

"If he wants to come, then we'll figure out a way." Or, he'd just force his way along, same difference. "We'll have to make sure we bring our phones to take pictures, or people might not believe we were up there."

"It's adorable you think I go anywhere without my phone," Arden said. And eyed him, up and down, doing her best to give off serious badass vibes. "All right then, Kestis. When we doing this?"

"We could do it after class on Friday? Loosen up in Yoga and then have some fun?" he suggested.

"I technically have another class after that, but we'll probably end up just watching the movie about the hot lady jewelry thieves again so...I'm in."

Because why not mix a little cutting class in with them already climbing the school tower?

This is what happened when they didn't have paintball, obviously. Too much energy. Blame Steve.
