"This week," said Summer, at the front of the classroom as usual, "I want to focus in on a topic that, in my research for the class, came up an awful lot that I think will not only allow us to sort of gawk at an interesting phenomenon in the usage of bananas in old recipes, but could spark a discussion about our current modern perspectives about the fruit. Because you see, when looking through recipes, variations of banana meatloaf came up....like....a lot. And I have print-outs of several of those different recipes for you all today so we can look them over and see the differences in them and if there's anything substantial there. I even found someone inspired to make a vegan banana meatloaf, which seems like such a choice I almost have to respect it.

"But, see, the theory behind all these banana meatloafs is a simple and logical one: banana is really good as a substitute for eggs, which, due to allergies, cost, or food preferences, one might want to avoid. And it makes a lot of sense for baking things like cookies and cakes where it adds natural sweetness and the like. But the question we're asking ourselves today is how much does it make sense in a savory dish?

"So I'd like for us today to ask ourselves that question and find out. Shift through the banana meatloaf recipes to find one you think will work or won't work, and make it so we can see how right we are. Maybe it works better in actuality than it does in concept? Maybe it's just as weird as it sound. We only have one way to find out!

"And I also found this really cool recipe, actually, for a banana ketchup that I'd also like us to try....and, like, tomatoes are technically a fruit, so while I think it could be interesting, my real question is....is it really a ketchup? Does it even really work as a condiment, no matter what you call it? Let's find out."

It's a good concept that's so bizarrely interesting and apparently varied throughout the decades that Summer had to feature it several ways!

Find which variation on the banana meatloaf speaks to you most, give the banana ketchup a try, and then let everyone know your thoughts on if it works or not, whether it is indeed a food crime or whether it surprisingly works well for you!

Steve was definitely skipping the vegan recipe. He chose the one with a an entire 1/2 tsp of paprika in it instead because let's go wild with flavor!

Stark was trying the vegan one because... he wasn't sure why. It just seemed like the thing to do.

"It certainly doesn't look appealing..."

Stewart, following no recipe whatsoever and clearly delighting in the activity of mashing together meat and bananas and whatever else had made its way into his bowl with his hands and squishing it between his fingers, couldn't help a decisive snort at that.

"A-peel-ing?" he echoed. "How droll."

"Droll?" Stark repeated. "Oh. Oh, I didn't mean to do that."

He considered Stewart for a moment.

"You seem to be enjoying making your...loaf."

"Unintentional?" Asked Stewart, looking over at Stark as if to confirm this. "Unfortunate. You're probably also not a fan of the band Peel-y Dan, then, are you?"

He then regarded his his loaf-in-progress with another mighty squish.

"And there's much to be said," he said, "about being able to mold a creation out of your own bare hands. The possibilities are endless."

On one hand, Cal had wanted to learn some vegan recipes to cook for Steven and Watts. On the other hand, he was pretty sure showing up with banana meatloaf would get him kicked out of the manor.

Did none of these people believe in any spices?

Hannibal was making a curried meatloaf, with the bananas to add a hint of sweetness and starch to complement it. And the banana ketchup should work nicely with it, too, with a few tweaks.

Who isn't thinking of putting that banana ketchup in a jello shot tomorrow, how dare.
