Cats! Monday, 4th period

Today was a no-cats-from-home day, and class was meeting at Portalocity.

Jon waved at them as they arrived. "Today we're going to Japan. Specifically, to Gotoku-ji Temple. There's a tradition in Japan of the beckoning cat. Maneki Neko. The story goes that as a lord passed the temple, a cat beckoned to him. As soon as he followed the cat into the temple, lightning struck where he had been standing. He was so grateful, he made it into his family's temple. Today, people bring statues of the cat to the temple as offerings."

He smiled. "There are a few places cats are worshipped or memorialized. I thought this one would be fun to see."

Liliana discovered that there was, in fact, a concept of 'too many cats' and the temple hit it.

And people called her creepy, hmph.

"You, erm. You don't seem too interested," Jon noted.

"I'm not not interested," Liliana protested. "There are just...I think the problem is is that they're all identical. It is--" Hmm. Disturbing, disquieting, unsettling, and unnerving all offered themselves as words, but none of them fit, as those suggested discomfort or even concern and don't be foolish, she was Liliana Vess. "--raises my hackles," she eventually decided upon, because that at least suggested aggression.

"Apparently if they're not identical enough, the staff removes them," Jon admitted. "I'll confess, it's the one part of this I'm not a fan of. I think they should allow for a bit of difference."

"I think the unpleasant effect would be mitigated slightly if they were less uniform," Liliana agreed. "I approve of the overall sentiment of the temple, though the execution is a bit..." She reached out and turned one of the cat statues slightly away from her.

"It could be worse," Jon said in a rare moment of optimism. "They could all be the ones that wave."

"Oh well that wouldn't be a scene straight out of a horror novel at all," Liliana snarked.
