Wonders of the Weave, Friday - 6th Period

"My apologies," Gale said once the class arrived. "I had meant to work on presentation for you all, but there has been some events that have transpired that have taken my focus away from teaching you all."

The events were a tressym lashing their tail back and forth on the desk in annoyance.

"So, today we'll instead be sharing the sorts of magic you are more accustomed to with each other, yes? How does that sound? A little round table, if you will."

Since no one had the same type and he needed to figure out how best to work with this all. Why couldn't you all have one, perfectly normal spell list to pull from and no weird factors? Why?

"Let's begin!"

How does your particular magic work? Are there similarities with anyone else's here?

Eleanor just sighed and shook her head and planned on just being quiet and listening in on this one....maybe everyone else's answers would be inspiring! Or helpful!....but, before she knew it, her mouth was getting ahead of her brain and talking on its own volition.

"I still have no idea how magic is supposed to work back where I'm from," she opined.

Blinked.

Realized that she said that outloud.

Quickly tried to course-corrrect.

"Anyone who could teach me that I know of are either dead or want nothing to do with me."

....that was not as helpful as she'd hoped, no...

But there was that itch in her brain again, reminding her that dead didn't always mean gone....

"Well, that is certainly a conundrum," Gale replied slowly. "Have you been able to use the cantrip I taught last week? It might take practice."

Said the guy who destroyed his neighbor's rosebush with a fireball at age eight.

"I was trying to light some candles with it at work yesterday," Eleanor said, with a sigh that made it pretty clear how well that had been going for her, "but I stopped because I started to worry about accidentally burning the shop down."

Because she tended to destroy a lot more than rose bushes when she lost control of her abilities, Gale!

...maybe evocation wasn't for her. You know. Sometimes it just be that way!

"Too much ooomph?" he asked, ignoring the amused scoff from Tara at him asking that.

"Well," Lydia said, "as I said last week," and really, Gale, didn't you pay attention then? "where I am from all magic has a price, and if you don't pay it in advance the universe or God or whomever will make sure that it is paid. Not in money, of course, but some kind of sacrifice, or pain, either by the person who cast the spell or by someone else...usually someone who is involved, or has agreed to pay. Some witches are not so scrupulous, of course, and some even use poor innocent animals." Lydia could never.

"I'm a witch, so the magic I know is in the form of spells, some of which are just...thinking about the outcome you want and making the trade, but some of them require incantations or ingredients or somesuch. It's all rather complicated," she complained.

Yes, but you try coming up with a class after the clusterfuck of abilities and also a married cat, Lydia! Look at Tara! She was being smug.

"You could try some of the material components for the more advanced spells later on and see if perhaps that works," Gale suggested. "They aren't necessary for most cantrips, unfortunately."

"Charms," Charlie said. "You can draw a charm on someone or something with your finger or another writing implement, stir it into a drink or a batter, pour it out like for pancakes or syrup..."

She considered. "Oh. And I can play a chord or song to direct what I want to happen."

Baaaaard. BARD.

"Well, that's... certainly a thing one could do," Gale said slowly. "Perhaps not in this class?"

"It doesn't have to be a bad thing," Charlie said. "You can use it to change hair color or make your drink colder... Subtle things. Or bigger things, obviously."

"I've never considered what I do magic," Lana said, "though I suppose it may fall under some definitions. I can make use of the Force, the energy that creates and permeates the universe. Force users can use telekinesis, influence minds, read emotions and currents in the Force, and create Force lightning. It also can involve a limited form of precognition, visions, healing, and some less common abilities."

Who had successfully managed to keep Tara from doing a murder. A red letter day!
