Camping 101; Friday, 3rd Period [05/24].

Ahhh, nothing like a nice outdoorsy class right in the smack dab middle of the day in summer to really catch the most of the heat and humidity that the eastern seaboard had to offer! But, of course, Gladio was living for it, and he was ready to meet the class at the edge of the preserve. His usual grin might have been a little more reserved out of deference for anyone who may have decided to come to class despite discovering why too much alcohol was full of regrets the next morning (not to name any names or anything, though, of course), and he gestured at all the stuff he had at his feet today.

"Before we head up to the campsite today," he announced, "we're going to be taking a moment to talk about camp first aid and putting together first aid kits to bring with us. Even if you're just taking a nice casual little camping trip out for a night or a weekend, anything can happen out there, so you've got to be prepared. We'll also talk about some of the more common injuries you might encounter and what to do about them, and once we're all kitted up and ready, we'll head on out."

All the stuff is provided for you to put together your first aid kits as Gladio goes over what's a good idea to have inside and for what reasons, with an emphasis on quickly showing a few things like wrapping or splints, and, of course, fielding any questions anyone might have.

Arden couldn't help but kick up a slight smile as she packed her first aid kit. Might be handy to keep a first aid kit around that didn't have a defibrillator in it.

"We shoulda just brought the ones from First Aid," Nell said with a half smile. "Just get on to the hike, right?"

Nell was feeling a little delicate today - though undoubtedly not as badly as she should have.

"I'm sure Professor Amicitia wouldn't have laughed at us at all, trying to hike with all that stuff on our backs," Arden agreed with a small laugh.

"Oh, he'd be laughing at us for sure," Nell said with a smile. "And wouldn't we have looked foolish!"

"Especially when the weight ended up tipping us over backwards and we ended up looking like turtles," Arden said.

"Stuck on our backs, waving our arms and legs on the air," Nell said. "He might just leave us there while he laughed."

"It would get cold as the sun started going down," Arden snorted. "If we were lucky, he might come back."

"Probly just to take pictures," Nell said with a laugh.

Hopefully, no one would be too startled by the sudden shriek from Noctra once Prompto set to work on their first aid kit.

It would be revealed to have been a delighted shriek, as it was followed up by a thrilled "Up Oodle!" as she'd just discovered that Uncle 'Adio had included special band-aids just for her.

And they were now all being promptoly being stuck all over her dad.

"Alright, nugget," he eventually intervened, "let's save some for the kit, too, yeah?"

The suggestion was met with a distinct raspberry, another bandage on his arm, and a giggle.

Bandages. So many bandages. Also painkillers. And one of everything else, because look, you never knew.

And once everyone's got their first aid kits ready to go, it's time to head out into the woods! Don't anyone try and tell him that this isn't one of the best parts about the class, especially with the relatively easy hike that brought them to the campsite.

Professor Amicitia was correct. This was the best part of the class. Even with how ugh everything else was, being out in the fresh air made her feel better without fail. In deference to the bandage on her right shoulder, she was carrying the bag with the first aid kit in it slung over her left - which helped her keep from scratching at it.

Accelerated healing meant she'd gotten to the itchy part fast, hopefully it meant she'd get through it faster, too.

"Um." Jon came up to walk next to Arden, eyeing the bandage. "I could...could carry that for you, if you're injured."

Look, he was noodle-armed, but it wasn't that bad, and if someone needed help, he would do what he could.

"Oh!" Arden ducked her head and offered him a sheepish smile. "Not injured, exactly. I, uh, decided to get a tattoo on Thursday."

Weird how that seemed to be going around this past week.

"Oh! I'm glad it's not anything worse, then," Jon said. "I can still carry that, if you like. And, um. I hope you like your tattoo. I've never had the urge."

Where would he even put one that wasn't already scarred?

"Oh, um, thanks!" Arden said, passing her bag over to him carefully. "And I do. It's birds flying away on a gust of wind. Pretty obvious symbolism and stuff, but..."

Jon took the bag equally carefully, settling it on the opposite shoulder from his own. It was actually a bit easier like this; less unbalanced.

"It sounds lovely anyway," Jon offered. "A-and if the symbolism works for you, th-that's the important part."

"Yeah," she said, smiling. "I drew the basics of it during my library shift and then talked with the artist to make it into something that worked. I'd offer to show you, but it's still too new."

That wasn't exactly true. More like she didn't want most people knowing how healed it already was.

Jon nodded. "They have to heal for a while. They...er." The Eye decided to be 'helpful'. "You probably don't want to know all the things that could go wrong. N-never mind. They...there's a large percentage that are just fine."

"Uhhhh....yeahno, I'm good, thank you," she said politely. "I'm taking care of it and checking for infection, honest."

More nodding. "Yes, I-I'm sure it's fine. It usually is."

He was truly a ray of sunshine.

"... I'll make sure someone else checks it tonight," Arden said quickly.

Because now she was worried.

"That, um. I-it couldn't hurt," Jon agreed. "Sorry. But it really is probably fine."

Nell's morning had been ... a little rough. Her head ahd definitely been unhappy with her and mouth felt as if it had been in a forest fire. But after a ridiculous amount of water, a little coffee, and the judicious dipping of her fingers into a plant growing in Soulwood soil, she was down to just feeling a bit... delicate.

Being in the woods absolutely made her feel better, though.

Jon really could have done without the humidity. He was getting more acclimated to it than he had been when he'd arrived here, but he would never be an Eastern Seaboard kind of person.

It was possible he was using some of those copious bandages he'd packed to wipe his face.

And, once everyone's arrived and worked together (presumably!) to get a good fire going, it's time to just enjoy the campfire. This week, Gladio's supplied stuff so that everyone can make their own campfire banana boats (sans marshmallows, of course!) and as they all settled in with their finished snacks if they so chose to enjoy, he offered out a prompto.

"Alright, so," he grinned faintly, "campfire story time. Without getting too gross about it since we've got food here, what are some of your own camping injury stories, if you've got 'em? Do you think you'd be prepared to handle something like that easily? Or you could just enjoy your food and the company, that's totally fine, too."

Nell's bare feet were dug into the soil, taking up some of that good healing energy. She didn't really have a camping injury to share and she was much happier to just sit quietly and listen.

No campfire banana boats for her, though. Food was not quite her friend yet.

"Oh, um. I...I've never really been properly camping. Only...well. Um. In the apocalypse. We had to jump off an endlessly tall ladder and...er...l-land."

More like crash.

"But, um. We healed."

There's a good chance he'll be sticking around through lunch until it's time for yoga.

Nell had immediately taken off her shoes and dug her feet into the soil and she wasn't interested in getting up anytime soon.The healing effects of the land would have her feeling fairly close to normal by the time yoga class happened, but for now she was just going to relax.

And lean against a handy Gladio should he care to come sit beside her.

As if anyone could have kept him away from the spot beside her.

"You're starting to look better already," he noted, while handing over another bottle of water, just in case.

"I don't think I want to do that again," Nell said, taking the bottle. "But I am feeling better, though I'm not sure the plant from this morning will survice."

"I would say it's an important lesson in pacing yourself," Gladio said, "but even I don't know how to go about pacing a single step."

The grin he sent over to Nell was both wry and apologetic, all at once.

"But.....now you know, right?"

"I do," she said.

Nell was quiet for a moment, then looked up at him a little uncertainly. "Did I do anything bad or that embarrassed you?" she asked. "I remember singing and talking. A lot."

"Don't think there's anything you could do that'd embarrass me," Gladio assured her, the lift of his brow meant to almost be daring her to challenge him on that statement. "If anything, it's nice seeing you singing and talking a lot more."

He leaned to thr side, to gently nudge her shoulder with his.

"It's real cute."

Nell blushed a little. "You're awful sweet."

She nudged him back. "I didn't mind the being really snuggly part or you being my hero and carrying me home. I wasn't as fond of feeling like I wasn't really in control of myself."

"Yeah." Gladio's expression went sympathetic again, his head bobbing a little in an understanding nod as he took a drink of his own water. "I get that. That's the whole reason I never really drink much. The idea of not having control over myself..."

He shook his head now, trying not to think too much on times when he hadn't been so great at keeping his anger in check...sighing a little, and sending over another faint smile.

"I can at least go a few deep before I even start to feel anything, though," he noted, "at my size, though."

"Clearly I should stick to a small glass of wine once in a while," Nell said with a smile. "No matter how tempting the drink may be. I can always have a non-alcoholic one."

"And if you do change your mind," Gladio grinned back, "you know I'll be there to carry you home and we can just go take another walk in the woods the next day. Good to go."

Her heart was so full and he made her so happy that all she could do was turn and wrap her arms around him. "I know you will," she whispered into his chest. "One of the many reasons I love you so."

Rosa's class will be going up MUCH later today because I wasted too much time finding this dumb meme.
