Earth Tourism, Tuesday 5th period

"Welcome back," Lana told them all, smiling. "We're going a little further away today, though not much. I mentioned the country we're in is the United States. Just north of it is a country called Canada. We're going to a place just on the border between the two, called Niagara Falls. It's one of the largest waterfalls on Earth, and apparently quite an impressive sight."

She paused to hand out things. "We've got tickets on a boat that goes up close to the falls themselves - there are your tickets and waterproof ponchos. We'll probably still be getting quite wet, I should warn you. When the boat ride finishes, we can wander a bit and take a look at it from the land via an observation tower. There are also a welcome center, shops to buy touristy things at, and places to eat, if you're so inclined."

Their portal came up and she waved them through. "Let's go!"

Cal was glad he'd left BD-1 at home, because he would have complained the whole time about the possibility of getting wet. Cal, on the other hand, was in awe of the falls and had zero problem about getting misty, because it was worth the view.

"It's lovely, isn't it?" Lana asked. "I don't think I've seen anything quite like it, actually."

"No, I can't think of anything like this back home. I didn't know this world had things that were so beautiful," Cal said. "It's pretty amazing that it's just natural and not any kind of magic."

Lana nodded. "It's wonderful. What sort of world is your home?"

Shop! Eat!

Normally, this kind of thing would be Arden's jam, but right now she was just kind of wandering listlessly about, not really finding anything she wanted to do or try or eat. Which just sucked entirely because it was Niagara Falls. You had to be broken not to be entranced by Niagara Falls.

Ugh.

Ignore the yellow paint spatters in her hair. That was because the Dean was a sadist.

It was hard not to notice that. "Everything all right, Arden?"

Arden startled and then looked a little guilty, deliberately not looking at any classmates in particular.

"It's just been a day," she said, softly. "One of those days that continue being a day, you know?" She tugs on a curl. "And I think I might be covered in yellow paint for the rest of my life."

Lana snorted. "That's Skywalker for you. For a Jedi, he does love tormenting people. Is there anything I can do to help, with the dean or the day?"

This time she was less good at not sneaking peeks at Cal. But it was a super-quick one and probably Lana didn't even notice!

"Oh, no, I don't think so. I mean, this was self-defense course and I can say I'm a lot more inclined to keep an eye out for traps now."

"Is that all?" Lana asked; she had noticed those peeks. She raised an eyebrow. "I won't push if you don't want to say."

But how? SHE HAD BEEN SO SUBTLE AND SNEAKY LANA. AS SUBTLE AND SNEAKY AS THIS ALL-CAPS SENTENCE.

"Oh, umm." She ducked her head. "No, no, I'm good, ma'am, thank you," she insisted. "Just working some things out, it's okay."
