Wonders of the Weave, Friday - 6th Period

"Hello!" Gale said, gleefully waiting for all the listed students in the class to arrive in the danger shop so he could impart the wisdom he was hired for. Also because it was just the thing he always wanted to explain to people. Just always. "This is Wonders of the Weave and I am your instructor, Gale."

Of Waterdeep. But he was trying not to put that out there as much when no one know what in the nine hells Waterdeep was. You poor, poor people. Unaware of the Jewel of the North.

"No, I hope you all are here with the hopes of expanding your knowledge of magic because that is the goal at hand. Beginning, of course, with the basics. The weave, magic, being a fundamental building block of the world around us. A force that moves and shapes our reality until it is harnessed or channeled to great feats for good or ill," he said, channeling the start of a spell to glow within the palm of his hand before dissipating it again.

"While I haven't found anyone here with same specific abilities as back home, there have been a number of similarities that we can use to help you learn what style works best for you," Gale added. "There is the wizard, such as myself. I am able to channel the weave through practice and study over the years. There are also sorcerers who have the talent come naturally to them through either a fluke of nature or a powerful bloodline. Clerics are gifted the weave through the faith within their deity of choice who funnels the power through them. Paladins take hold of the weave through sheer force of will as they follow an oath made for some greater good. Rangers and druids use their instinctual connection to the natural world. Bards are able to strum the weave like it were an instrument. Warlocks, of course, gain their powers by signing a contract with a powerful patron such as a devil or fey totally didn't get forgotten either."

Was that all the pure and half caster classes? Well, the core ones at least. Larian, you cowards for not including artificers.

"So obviously there are many ways that one might use magic. But the spells are more uniform as a safe way to reach the end result. As such, we will be trying out a very basic cantrip, a spell that utilizes very little energy on the caster. So the practice should not drain any of you more than it ought. Oh, and introductions! Where are my manners? I would love to hear more about each of you."

"I'm Wanda," she said with an awkward wave. "And I guess I'm a sorceror...ess."

She still much preferred using the term 'witch'. But the alliteration of Scarlet Sorceress was pretty sweet, she had to admit.

"I am Liliana Vess," she said when it was her turn, "and you have listed multiple options that apply to me. I was a healing cleric as a girl, though perhaps that should not count as the goddess we worshipped was a Planeswalker who was already dead at the time and certainly not granting magic to anybody."

Serra, joining the ranks of powerful women who had basically died of a broken heart. Ugh.

"On the one hand, I have dedicated easily two hundred years to learning magic. I graduated from Strixhaven University with honors, I have apprenticed under some of the most powerful liches and vampires on the plane of Innistrad, and am an accomplished necromancer. That would suggest wizard.

"However, I am a Planeswalker, which makes me an incredibly powerful magic user. It is theorized that a spark of the Blind Eternities has stitched itself to my very soul and ignited. I don't know if I would be a magic user without it; I was the first magically gifted person in my family for generations and I am dubious at the prospect that it is not related to my spark. Thus, sorcerer.

"And finally..." She accessed just a bit of mana, enough to make the lines of the contract written onto her skin flare purple. "Warlock may also be appropriate, considering some of my dealings."

"Ah," Liliana said as her contract faded back into nothingness. "Then I'm sure I'm some combination of the above."

"I'm Charlie Gale," She said. "And we met at the Welcome party. I'm probably somewhere between sorceror and a bard, I'd guess, though we don't really use that teminology back home."

Sorcerors back home were considered evil by definition. And honestly, evil was far too much effort for Charlie even had she been so inclined.

"I am Miss Lydia Bennet," Lydia said, "and I am a witch, which I suppose would be closest to your 'sorcerers' or, in my case, sorceress I suppose." That was a much more dramatic word than 'witch.' Lydia quite liked it. "Witchcraft seems to run in my family--my aunt is also a witch, and my niece will be when she's older--and I am the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, and such a girl will always be a witch."

"Oh...." Boc's hands wrung slightly for a moment, before he attempted to stull them by holding them in front of him, but they still rubbed around each other in his distress. "Oh...dear, oh bother, I believe....I'm so sorry, buy I fear there's been a terrible mistake. You see, my name's Boc. Boc the Seamster, it seems my staff at the shop just saw the word weave and thought thus was some sort of weaving class, like with knitting! Or tapestries! Perhaps even looms? Because that would, indeed,be pertinent to my abilities, but magic? Oh,no, I don't know any magic! No one in my species knows magic except our queens, and I'm certainly not one of those!

"Erm, but," his head ducked, coming very close to groveling, "Perhaps....if it's still alright?...I could still....learn more about it? It does sound rather interesting....I promise I won't be a bother, I do rather try not to be!"

"Lana Beniko." She nodded to him. "Hello again, Gale. I'm a Force user, which I think would fall somewhere between wizard and sorcerer, though I have known traditions that would be closer to your paladins or druids. The Force is the energy field that connects and forms everything in the universe, so I suppose that would be the same thing you call the Weave? I was born with the ability to manipulate it, so I was brought to the Korriban Sith Academy as a child and learned to access and use it."

She held up a hand and generated a ball of lightning around it. "Though few things require anything so involved as spells or rituals. It would have to need massive amounts of coordinated Force for that."

"Illyana Rasputin, and while my title is 'sorcerer,' I've been studying magic since I was six or seven. I was told once by my first...teacher...when I was a very little girl that I had a lot of latent magical potential, but I had to learn to unlock it properly. So I suppose I'm a little bit sorcerer, and a little bit wizard."

Belasco had promptly started cutting her soul up into parts to get started on her 'education,' but details.
