The Library is Open, 5-3

Zero opened up the library. The last time she would ever do so. She gave a sad sigh as she opened the doors, and then was bombarded by The Library seeking vengeance.

"Okay, okay, I'll hit her with a stupid mallet," she promised. "Just let me get my work done first."

Goodbye, filing cabinet the Library wouldn't let her open...

Goodbye, Special Collections...she hopes someone will be able to handle you.

Goodbye, cubby under the collections desk for napping...

Goodbye--a pink bird landed on Zero's head and squawked, "ARE YOU MY MUMMY?"

"Fish? Fishy, where'd you come from? Yes, I'm your mummy, silly bird!"

The library is closed so the aides, librarian, and their friends can eat in peace. Fish is perched on Zero's shoulder, and she's feeding him bits of her peanut butter sandwich.

Goodbye, books that always seemed to be shelved in a different place every time she looked...

Goodbye, stupid Library in her head making her be a smatcheting bitch...

"All right, all right already. I'll do it." She picked up her croquet mallet and patted Fish, by now perched on the back of her chair. "Don't run away again. Mummy'll be back for you just as soon as she can."

"Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto?"

"Yes, Fishy. D'ANNA BIERS! PREPARE TO PAY!"

Mac had been putting this off far too long. She wandered into the Library with a plastic bag under her arm, and made her way over to Zero.

"Can I help you?"

Looking guilty Mac digs into the bag, "Yeah, uh... I had this little problem a while ago." She pulled out her chemistry book, the one she'd accidently turned into tortillas.

"I was really hoping this would just turn back on its own, and it really didn't, so..." she shrugged. "They're also really stale."

"What. The squall."

"They still have some of the writing on!" she pointed out, squirming a little.

Zero engaged in a brief, internal struggle with the library, then opened her eyes and, with a pasted on smile, said, "I'm sorry, Miss MacKenzie, but obviously you'll owe the cost of the book plus late fees."

"Ugh, damn." She sighed, "would be that I get the power that ends up giving me library fines."

"You could also get a malleting?"

Angela finally makes it to the library sometime around now.

"Hi, Zero." Then, noticing the bird, "Fish came back!"

"Yeah, he just showed up earlier!" Zero patted Fish's crest and he said happily, "Danke schoen."

Her eyes widened noticeably. Mallets? Uh-oh. "I'll pass... thanks," Mac said, before bolting.

She called over her shoulder, "you can keep the tortillas," as she left.

"You are an excellent birdie," Angela told him.

"I bet you were right, he was just waiting for you to get big again."

Zero eyed the stale tortillas. "Gee. Thanks."

"Pretty bird! Pretty bird!" Fish chirped.

Parker comes in after she wakes up, because all her finals are *done*, and why not? "Hey, how do you think you did on the History final?"

"Not as well as I could have. I should've done more detail about all the gruesome ways English people killed their nobles. Whatever. It's over."

"Thank God. I swear I'm not taking anything more brain-taxing than surfing and tanning this summer." Parker stretched her arms over her head, then spun on the spinny chair. "How soon are you out of here for the summer term?"

"As soon as possible. I can't wait to see my parents." Zero spun on her spinny chair, too.

((Which reminds me I need to check with the admins and make sure my 'gone first session, back second' plan is acceptable.))

"Awww. Did you explain any of last weekend to them yet?" Parker grinned. "They better let you come back!"

[Angela & Marty are doing the same thing, but yeah, I'd give 'em paperwork for it.]

"They've sorta chalked it up to 'our daughter's school is weird.' And, yeah, they're lettin' me come back. Flora an' Toby an' Emma are hacked about it, but I do want to come back."

"Still not letting up about the band, hunh?"
