Photography Basics: Color - Monday, Second Period [05/13].
Still sort of riding the high of yet another successful Mother's Day for Liz in the books (so much mint chocolate! So much adorable, indecipherable babble as Noctra explained to her everything she'd drawn on the card they'd made for her! So many things handwavily from Pick Your Poison cluttering up their bathtub now!), Prompto was bouncy and eager to get started with class, grinning as usual from the front of the room.
"Hey, everyone," he greeted them, "and welcome to Another Photography Class!" He cocked a finger gun at them, as well as a grin, chuckling a little sheepishly that he'd done that and then just quickly moving on. "This one's going to be focused on the use of color, and it's a pretty simple concept: each week, we'll focus on a color, you'll have some homework to build up a small portfolio of about four to six pictures, and then you'll show them off the following week before we get into the next color. We'll talk about the mood and effect that those colors can have when utilized certain ways, and talk about some examples in the color scheme. Pretty simple, right? If not, please, don't hesitate to ask me question, but I'm sure you'll start to pick up what I'm putting down as we get into it more.
"First, though, of course, especially since I see a new face," he gave a nod to Stewartassuming he was there OMG, "is introductions. I'd like to grab your name, how much experience you have in photography, and what you're hoping to get from this class. And, once we're done with that, we're going to take a moment to make sure everyone knows how to use the equipment. We really want to use digital for this class," a nod in particular to Arden and Stark, since they were in his last class and knew just how many different methods there could be!, "it just makes sharing the pictures so much easier. If you've already got a digital camera you know and love, great, you can totally use that! But, if you don't, or you just want to try something new, I've got some pretty sweet new cameras from the shop you can borrow."
(Was he a little partial to the Canon EOS series for very sentimental reason? You fucking bet he was!)
"And once we're done with that, we'll just right into some photos. We're doing the full color spectrum, so that means we'll be starting with red, but first! Any volunteers to kick us off on the introductions?"
He then blinked, and realized, "Oh, wait! I guess I should probably do one, too!" He laughed a little. "Okay, so I'll volunteer. My name's Prompto Argentum, I've been passionate about photography ever since I was a little kid, and now I bring my passion to you guys through these classes! I've also got a professional photography business if you ever need a photographer, and my wife and I run the Photo Hut here in town! And, for this class, I'm really hoping to see some great photos from you guys! Oh! Hey, we should also say our favorite colors! Mine's definitely yellow! Okay, enough about me! Who's next?"

And then she was going to immediately shut up, because he had only asked for her favorite color, and certainly not fanciful descriptions why.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
So he had a soft smile and a nod, and maybe still a little bit of residual awkwardness, but, really, Arden was so different from that Ardyn, that so long as he continued to avoid saying her first name, it should be fine! He'd gotten used to Hellboy being a different kind of daemon, after all! Nothing to worry about.
"Sunrises are one of my favorite things to take pictures of, too," he said, with that gentle respect that sunrises got from someone who hadn't seen any for nearly ten years at some point. "And blue's a great color, too. One of my best friends at one point was blue! And it's good to see you back! Really looking forward to see how you apply that you learned last semester to this one!"

And not just his regular muscles. Of which he had many.
He glanced down at his hands, still a little paintball spattered from the previous class. "I'm partial to blue, but red's growin' on me."
Guess whose suit was responsible for that.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
If there wasn't at least one dramatic suit shot in Steve's pics next week, Prompto would be so disappointing.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
Those suit photos would be so incredibly overdramatic, Prompto.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
How long had it been since he's been in a classroom setting like that? That wasn't some sort of event thing at the Ag Hall or Modean's? It was bizarre in its mundanity. Surreal in its iconic familiarity. Glorious in its squeaky-clean perception....
"Stewart," he offered, when he was the last one left, with a lift of his chin before he ducked his head in a nod. "I...tend to express my creativity more in the music arts but I have been known to dabble in other, more visual media as well. Film, more than photography, though they share more than a few kindred properties for style and technique. So I suppose I'm here to give my shutterbug skills an overdue..."
He leaned forward as he arms swept out grandly.
"Reawakening. And ask for my favorite color?"
He grinned broadly, holding that moment for a long pause before leaning back in his chair again, arms folded while his chin lifted softly.
"Gold," he said, and then waited to see how many expectations he subverted by not saying black.

The almost-hat tip made her smile and she returned the gesture, her hand arcing a slight flourish in the air by her head as she nodded at him. The quasi-regality of the greeting was undermined by the dimples she flashed at him when she was done.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
"I'm really excited to see how you bring your film experience to the still image, then, Stewart," he said. "And gold's definitely yellow adjacent, right? So I'm right with you there."
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
Which multiple people here knew already but that was fine.
"I just want to learn more. I like doing this even if I'm not very good at it yet. And it would be nice to be better so I can take nicer photos on trips. And... blue. Blue is my favorite. Though I'm fond of pink as well."
Hush.
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
Although hearing about the last trip was probably going to cause Prompto to hesitate a bit more than usual now, too...
Re: Class Activity: Introductions! - Photography, 05/13.
"Blue is a very good color. It's... soothing, sometimes, and it reminds me of good things."
He nodded a little. "So does pink. But in a different way. I'm looking forward to taking more photos on the next trip for the school. Or maybe if I go somewhere without the school."
Ireland was supposed to be very pretty, right?
Listen to the Lecture - Photography, 05/13.
handwavily because yawngoing over the cameras with anyone who needed a run-down, it was time to get to the real heart of the lesson."Now, like I said, we're starting with the color red for next week's photos, and there's a lot to be said about red as a color when it comes to emotions, and as well as its use in photography," Prompto said, as he started to launch into a little bit of an overview of those concepts, while flipping through a few examples on the projector. He talked about some of the history of red in the visual arts, and featured a little bit about some well known photographers who used red to great effect: as an accent like in Maria Cosinda's Vivian, or an the overall focus as in William Eggleston (hey, kids, remember that name from last semeseter?)'s The Red Ceiling. There's Steve McCurry's Dust Storm and Red Boy, Holi Festival, and, well, while they were on McCurry, of course he had to include Afghan Girl and how her light, piercing eyes contrast with the red of her shawl. He finished it out with a few from Richard Mosse's Congo set, and, because a few of those were sort of heavy, a few more fun ones, like Red Riding Hood from Ann Nevreva and Patience from Max Foster and Red is my game from Markellos Plakitsis!
"So," Prompto concluded, leaving that last striking image up behind him as he conclude his little lecture and presentation, "take some time to think about what some of those photos made you feel and try to capture it in your own red-centric photographs for next week. Definitely up to brainstorming thoughts and ideas while we've still got time, too, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!"
Re: Listen to the Lecture - Photography, 05/13.
Okay yeah, she couldn't think of a way other than editing to get that effect.

Re: Listen to the Lecture - Photography, 05/13.
The real question was, did he leave it since she'd rather not? Or try to encourage her to still say it?
His head tilted a little thoughtfully at Arden. "But if you have a good idea you're interested in exploring," he ventured, "I'd love to help make it happen if I can. Just let me know, yeah?"
