BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

The Khan family was not known for doing the minimum for anything. Which is why the entire family drove down in multiple cars the entire way from Jersey City to BWI. Three hours in the car of her mom and dad asking if she had everything. Asking if she needed anything. There's a Target on the way in case she needed or forgot something. Meanwhile Aamir kept texting her complaints about Abbu's driving skills and asking if Kamala needed anything.

"I'm fine," was the common answer to everything. Again, again and again. Then there was hugs and fussing over everything when they got to the airport and reminders and more fuss. To which everything Kamala laughed and said "I'm fine."

And then they got in their car and left.

And Kamala was standing in the Portalocity Lounge taking it all in while holding her stuffed sloth and a pile of luggage next to her.

Deep breath. "I'm fine."

"Or ditch people I don't want to take back with me," Anakin said with a bright smile. "I'm the vesting process."

He was not.

"And the bus is a little finicky, so I can make it work."

"Glad I pass muster. I'd hate to have to walk back to New York," Don said. "And I'm always impressed by people who are mechanically inclined."

As long as they didn't go too far and end up cloning his god, Tony.

"Oh, I'd probably give you train money," Anakin said. "Probably. You're not mechanically inclined?"

"Only if you consider the body a machine," Don said. "I'm a surgeon. Or was. Will be again, hopefully, when I get some paperwork sorted out. Your school's job offer came at just the right time." Any earlier and he would have still been in the void trying to drag Thor back out of it.

"The school has an uncanny sense of timing," Anakin admitted. "I think I'm taking your class--is it about first aid?"

"That's the one," Don confirmed. "It's a useful thing for everyone to know, especially on a...what was it? Multiversal nexus?"

"Multiversal nexus," Anakin agreed, nodding. "I'm from a different galaxy, myself."

"I was thinking I hadn't met any 'Anakins' before," Don said. "But that could just mean you're from Florida, for all I know. I'm just from New York." More or less. Although Thor was from space in some universes!

"There's a lot of New York transplants here," Anakin said. "My wife's from Connecticut."

"That's not the same thing," Don told him, in case he didn't know that, being from space and all. "People do commute, though." Don could never. But people did.

Anakin wrinkled his nose up. "I'll pass. We only go up for Thanksgiving and Christmas, anyway."

"That's probably the best way to engage with Connecticut," Don said with a nod.

Sorry not sorry, Connecticut.

"But I've never been to Maryland before," unless it was as Thor, with the Avengers, and it didn't spring to mind, "so this is all new."

"Well, I must warn you that if you move too slowly, Marylanders may attempt to cover you in Old Bay," Anakin teased, "and they are obsessed with eating crabs. But it's generally a not bad place to spend time."

Don nodded and said, very serious but in that joking way, "Got it. Eat all the crabs, covered in Old Bay. I think I can handle that."

"You'll be fine," Anakin said, grinning. "You already know about the crabs and Fandom being a multidimensional nexus."

"And about the paintball," Don said. "Apparently it's a thing. Although you'll excuse me if I pass." He gestured with the hand holding his walking stick. "Bad leg."

Anakin laughed. "I've been taking that class for years. Rogers and Stark have fun with it, but I'm sure they'd understand why you aren't taking it."

That was a funny combination of surnames right there, but they were both common enough ones, and Tony Stark and Steve Rogers wouldn't be on speaking terms right now even if the latter wasn't dead, so Don was just brushing on past that. "Good to know. Well, I'll let you...drive the bus." Better Anakin than him. Surely. Right?

How did you feel about speed limits as a concept? Because Anakin didn't believe in them.

"It won't take long to get back," Anakin said, "and then there's a picnic."
