Class had received notes that they'd be meeting back outside the preserve again for class, and, hopefully, they'd be doing the same for the rest of the semester, and when they arrived at the spot, they'd find Gladio waiting for them....with lots and lots of stuff.

"Hey, guys," he said, "we've been spending way too much time inside the danger shop for how nice it's starting to get out here, so we're back in the real woods again. And since the last few weeks have been pretty intensive with our sustenance units, I was thinking we'd take it easy this week with a nice hike through the preserve."

He paused, looked at all the stuff gathered around him, and then grinned.

"Well," he amended, "easier, and by my standards. Which means it's a good time for a lesson on building a pack for wilderness survival when you head out into the woods. We'll go over the the essentials, and then you'll take some time to figure out what you want in yours and how you want to pack it, keeping in mind that we're taking it with us. And I want to see at least a few basics, so you can't just stuff a pillow in yours and call it good."

Although there might be a weird sort of respect for anyone who had been thinking of trying that. Gladio was definitely a work harder type of guy, but he knew there was a lot to be said for the work smarter types, too.

Gladio will walk through a basic checklist of anything you might want to bring with you, but feel free to take or leave anything from the wide variety of items he's gathered up for everyone. Got questions about something you see, or maybe something you don't? Share 'em with the class, it could also be useful!

And now it's time to find a backpack that works well for you, fill it up as best you can, shoulder that sucker, and then everyone'll roll out for a nice hike to really get used to the weight of what carrying all that around might feel like! Being able to lug around your survival kit is almost as important as the survival kit itself!

Nell packed lightly, but had all the essentials. And the hike, of course, was pretty easy.

Who might be tempted to show off by carrying several packs with him on the hike...

Nell had found a nice tree to sit beneath at the end of the hike as she waited for Gladio. And as she waited she amused herself by tracking everyone and everything currently in the prserve with her eyes closed. Undoubtedly some small vines had wrapped themselves around her as she did so.

And Gladio figured that Nell would be setting up somewhere at the base of some tree somewhere in the preserve toward the end of the hike, but he wasn't nearly as good as tracking as she was when she got herself close to the ground. Still, hopefully everyone had stayed pretty close together so that she hadn't actually strayed too far, and it wasn't long at all before he was slinging his pack off his shoulders and lowering himself down to sit next her with the usual overdramatic grunt of effort.

He then took a moment to look around a little before complimenting, "Good spot."

She'd 'felt' him coming long before he'd actually arrived, so she was able to greet him with a smile. "I like it," she said and leaned into him. "And it's a pretty nice day to be sitting out."

"Good to get out of the danger shop a little," Gladio nodded with an agreement. "Even if it is pretty realistic, it's definitely not the same as the actual outdoors and some good fresh air. Even if teal deer and alots aren't nearly as exciting as Catoblepas and Behemoths..."

"I like real over artificial any day," Nell said. "Though it is nice to be able to experience other things right here that you might not otherwise be able to see."
