Battle Tactics and Strategy; Thursday, Fourth Period [03/14].
The danger shop was once against set up with a very heavily Niflheim-inspired fortress, only, this time, there were Magitek soldiers and cybersuits milling around outside. The class itself was stationed a good distance away, where Ignis stood looking thoughtful and reflective, while Prompto bounced around him, organizing and sorting through a variety of firearms, interesting looking machinery, assault weapons, missle launchers....and, yes, of course, at least one catapult and trebuchet and ballista each.
So if you hadn't figured out what today's topic was going to be, well, you were going to find out indefinitely.
"Last week," Ignis began, while Prompto, whistling softly, continued setting things up, and perhaps getting a little distracted by the weapons of his own design for the sim because, look, he liked what he liked, okay?, "we discussed combat in very close proximity, and, this week, we're leaning into the complete opposite of the spectrum." There was a faint touch of a smile there, having nothing to do with the fact that he had a feeling certain students might find this approach to combat much more...applicable to their preferred battle methods, really. "Long-range weapons, assault weapons, missile launchers, your basic bows and arrows and your siege weapons. Good for when you want to make a hopefully strategic attack without getting too close. Now, of course, there is a certain safety in attacking from a distance, but one can only assume that your enemies are also equally well equipped and may just volley an attack back, but we're not necessarily speaking on defenses against long-range attacks today, so much as the offense of them, though we can certain start delving into that if the conversation leads us there. And while I can do well enough with the application of a weapon as a long range one, such as throwing a dagger or an axe or a lance, the long range expert on our team was, of course," he cocked his head toward Prompto, who lifted a hand from a pistol he was holding to wave and grin, "Mr. Argentum here. So he will be giving the rundown on the application of the various long-range weapons he's prepared for us today. I'll turn it over to him, then, and then we will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of these weapons and hopefully give you the chance to try a few of them out on the field to get used to the idea of using them and thinking of them strategically..."
There seemed to be something pointed in the way he said that, directly specifically at the blonde with the beard and the guns behind him, who rolled his eyes.
"Prompto?"
"Right!" said Prompto. "So! Let's talk guns! Big guns, little guns, massive guns, laser guns...there's a lot more to it than just point and shoot, and different situations are going to call for a different weapon, so let's get into it...."

Although Ignis would definitely be interjecting when Prompto starts talking about the machinery he used to wield, especially auto-crossbows, bio-blasters, and gravity wells, because they might be here all day if he didn't.

He should really look into working with machinery again....And so when he wasn't lecturing or demonstrating, he was wondering if he'd have time to pick around the junkyard after this. It had been a while!

No, Ignis. Just...no.
In fact, Prompto was just going to snort at that and shake his head, and he was also grinning at Nell, though his was much more open and straightforward. "That's right," he said, "that is coming up here soon, isn't it? He's never really made a huge deal out of it, though..."
Ignis' smile may have gotten a little warmer, as he thought of his own birthday this year and the detail and care that Liliana had put into it. He could only imagine, from what he knew of her, that Nell would similarly like to do the same for Gladio.
"I don't think it would take much to please him at all, in that regard," he offered, "especially if it was coming from you, Nell, though I suppose we could help you think of something. Did you have any thoughts or ideas? Something that perhaps could just be expanded on?"

Oh yeah, she was definitely going to be using violence today. Possibly on the whole stupid Danger Shop.

The smirk that accompanied it, though, threatened to give the game up.
"Thus, no doubt," he mused approvingly, "igniting a chain reaction. Hardly a subtle approach, Ms. Vess, but there's no denying it is an effective one."
There was a nod, a gesture for his hand toward the fortress. "By all means..."
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
A sweetly purred request underscored by the desire to commit absolute fucking mayhem because she was still cranky. Better now after...lunch...(hello again, Prompto), but the fact that he'd gotten to have a perfectly good lesson and she hadn't had really gotten her riled again.
Re: Class Activity: Long Range Attacks - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
She looked thoughtfully down at the big gun she was resting her hand on. "If I had several of these, I'd set them up around the fortress. Shoot one, watch the explosion, and when they started getting themselves together, set off another from the other side. The more confusion and chaos you can rain down, especially if you can keep them continuously off-balance, the easier your job will be."
And then she was firing a blast towards the wall of the fortress, pretending there was a smiling, bouncing flower on the side of it.

She smiled at Prompto. "I don't necessarily want it to be a big deal, but I do at least want to have a gathering with you two, and Liliana and Liz, of course. The meal will feature lots of meat and some elevated Cup Noodle type dishes."
Actual Cup Noodle would be part of the gifts she gave to him.
"I also thought I might take him away for a trip and I was wondering if either of you knew of a place here that might remind him of home - or... is that not a good idea?"
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
He was just hoping he'd be able to block out overhearing anything likely to transpire between her and Ignis today, oh man...
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
"Hard to tell, on that one," he admitted, and was relieved when Ignis gave a hum of agreement.
"I think we've all," Ignis continued, "collectively, sort of been feeling a bit of a certain...nostalgia for Eos lately. It's hard to tell what exactly it is, except perhaps just the march of time and distance, but it's also hard to think of somewhere that Gladio really expressed being a favorite spot of his or anything of the like."
"There's Galdin Quay," Prompto offered, "everyone liked Galdin Quay."
"Mmmm, no," Ignis shook his head. "It was at Galdin Quay that we got the news about--"
"--oh," Prompto realized, rubbing his neck a bit sheepishly. "Right. So Altissia's probably right out, too, huh?"
"Altissia is definitely right out," he agreed, and then offered Nell what he hoped was an encouraging smile, since he was sure the exchanged didn't exactly sound so promising to her ears. "Though, really, I'm sure it comes to no surprise to you that anywhere with a robust and active wilderness would have him pleased as punch, Nell. No need to muddy the waters by trying to bring him back specifically to somewhere he can no longer go. Instead, better to make new favorite places that perhaps the two of you can return to again and again."
Re: Class Activity: Long Range Attacks - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
"Yup," Prompto confirmed. "This is the high ground in this area of Cleigne, unfortunately."
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
"Well," he said, the hand sliding toward her waist and to her back almost subconscious and automatic, especially with that finger down his chest, "since you asked so nicely..."
Honestly, there was a part of him that just regretted being unable to see it all in actual, though he did have a rather powerful imagination when he needed to...
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
Although that was really what her and Tony's friendship was, at its heart."I adore you." She gave him a quick kiss in thanks - paired with a sharp nip at the end that promised of better kisses once they had returned somewhere more private where her appreciation could be more effectively expressed - and then was gliding off to harass Prompto about the best weapons to use if one wished to wage war upon the fortress until nothing was left save a smoking crater.
In the end, it was a grand symphony of violence and destruction, and Liliana did feel much better once she'd drawn it to its inevitable conclusion.
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
She nodded again, considering. "All right. Then I'll find a good evening for us all to get together to celebrate and then I'll find a good place for he and I to go together. I wish we could just spend the weekend at Soulwood, but I'm afraid that would have far too many potential problems to be restful for a birthday trip."
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
Prompto was looking between Nell and Ignis for a moment, but it seemed as though he couldn't keep his curiosity completely held back.
"What sort of potential problems?"
Look, when they went to Liliana's home, they had to deal with a zombie and daemon invasion and saving a whole city! It seemed like a good thing to ask!
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
She shifted a little uneasily. "Maybe you Could make some sort of fancy dessert you think he might like? I'm good at plain cooking, but I ain't - I'm not so good at fancy. I'd like it to be a little bit nicer than a simple cake or pie."
Nell gave Prompto a half smile. "If I'm there too long the churchmen are gonna know I'm back and they'uns - they - well, they... they want my land and me back in the church. I left when they sent a bunch of armed boys to bring me in. Or kill me."
She could have killed them. She'd had their blood on the land. But she couldn't kill children. Luckily Mr. Rankin and his sons had come by and interrupted them because she'd have died before letting them take her. She would have found a way to manage after that, if she hadn't had Fandom to return to, but this... this was the best of both worlds.
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
"Yeah," he agreed, "less trouble and people trying not to kill you is definitely the better way to go."
Ignis shook his head a little at Prompto's always astute observations and offered Nell a small smile.
"As I said," he noted, "I'm happy to help in any way I cam, so if it's a fancy cake you want, then a fancy cake you shall have. But I'm sure, if given the chance, he'd much prefer a simple cake or pie made with love and care by your hands over one with all the fancy trappings made by mine..."
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
Ignis got a better smile. "Oh, he'll get that as well," she assured him, "but for the party I'd love something a little fancier."
She'd have a lovely something for him on his actual birthday.
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Battle Tactics, 03/14.
"Then I will be more than happy," Ignis agreed with an amused nod, "to provide one of those two."
