Sam Eagle Presents: The Weird States of America, Thursday 11/2
Once again Sam was in front of the classroom and ready to begin speaking at the appointed time. He so prided himself on his punctuality.
“Hello, students! Today we shall be discussing the very weird state of Louisiana! I was doing research this week in preparation and this very odd state seemed like a fine choice for this time of year.” Spooky season was weird and it was over but was that going to stop Sam? No. Also when he said ‘research’ he meant with actual books. The internet was very weird.
“To begin with, Louisiana has a state bird. This ought to be a good thing. However their bird is a pelican. They could have had an eagle and they chose not to! Appalling behavior.”
“There are plenty of tales of vampires in Louisiana. Very weird! Dead things ought to stay dead!” Somewhere on the island Eric was probably sighing sadly without knowing why. Sorry, Eric.
“Additionally, and this is particularly egregious, Louisiana is named after a French king. Someone not American and royalty? What would our founding fathers say?” After they were done asking questions about the giant fabric bird, that is.
“And finally,” Sam said, shaking his head sadly, “Louisiana is determined to be unique by having parishes instead of counties like every other state! Why, you may ask? I do not know! But that is what they do. They have parishes and they party. The less said of Mardi Gras the better!”
Sam paused, and shook his head once more. “Now, students, let us discuss the weirdness of this unfortunately French state!”
