Phys Ed; Thursday, First Period [10/26].

Everyone should have gotten word that class that morning would be held in the danger shop, where it was not only easier to set up things for batting cages, but, considering the class, also just seemed like a generally good idea.

"Now," he said, "we don't really have the numbers to really work out a good lesson for baseball proper, but I figured we could at least get one of the essential factors of it, which is swinging and hitting a ball with a bat, out of the way today. And the nice thing about learning how to swing and hit a ball is that, once you get that down, you can pretty much swing and hit anything with a bat..."

Not that he would suggest anyone go and do anything like that, of course.

Never mind that the other side of the cages all seemed to have old CRT monitors with handy targets marked on them.

Probably just coincidence, really.

Never mind.

"So, let's take a moment to get stretched and warmed up, especially the arms and shoulders, and we'll start going over some techniques to help..."

As you warm up and stretch, Gladio will be going over some tips to help with batting in general, with demonstrations, and even a few hitting drills to try once everyone's ready to get behind the bat for themselves.

Obviously, there's a good variety of speed on the pitches to try for your comfort level or if you want to challenge yourself, but Gladio seems mostly focused on everyone's technique and for some reason really making sure to get a good strong force behind each swing for some reason.

Maybe Gladio could help Nell with her form by standing close behind her and holding her arms?

In any case, Nell wasn't too bad with the whole hand eye coordination thing.

Oh, Gladio would absolutely be offering plenty of assistance in that regard for Nell's form and even the follow-through. It was his job,after all! And it was important, you never knew when you might need to hit.....a random pop-fly into an infield or something, right?

Very important. Really had to make sure to get it right.

And Nell didn't enjoy that. Oh no, not at all. But when it's the best way to do something, well, you just have to grin and bear it.

And maybe ask for a little more help that you don't really need.

"I would much rather go back to being a cat this week," Jon muttered. He was trying his best with the bat, though. Even if cricket bats seemed better for hitting people with.

And if one of his best defences against murder charges had once been his noodle arms.

Who can't stop just mindlessly flipping the bat in his hands and resting it on his shoulder for some reason.

Nell settled down on the periphery of the danger room to wait until everyone had left the class.

Well, surely not everyone, but once everyone else was on their way out,Gladio was on his way over with a grin.

"Nice hitting out there.

"Thank you," Nell said. "I had some anger to work off. They went and put a Walmart right smack dab in the middle of my woods. Felt it show up just after midnight last night and it spooked me a bit."

All right so they weren't technically her woods, but she felt fairly proprietary towards them.

"A Walmart?" asked Gladio, grin faded with a faint huff and consternation wrinkling his brow over anything that would give Nell a reason to have some anger to work out or spook her, even if only a little. "Isn't that one of those real big mega-stores?"

"Yes! Right out in the middle of the woods!" If even the sanctity of her woods was invaded, what was next?

"And if there's one thing I love seeing around here," Gladio murmured with a shake of his head, "it's things showing up randomly in the woods..."

Not exactly the best track record there, really, and he sighed.

"At this point, what's even left? Should I call up Sidon ans ask him to come check if they haven't put up a Starbucks in the ocean?"

"I wouldn't put it past them," she said with a frown. "And I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for the soil from Soulwood that my place would be different too."

It was concerning and a bit disturbing."I can almost feel it pushing at the building."

Gladio's expression went incredibly sympathetic, mixed with something a bit like pride, over how even in all of this, stubborn ans steadfast as could be, even if it was just a matter of the soil.

"Well," he said, "you know if you need anything..."

Not that he felt he could do much other than offer moral support, but he was great for support in general, really!

"Not sure what you could do," Nell said, "but I appreciate the offer."

And her expression turned softer. "Though anytime you'd like to stay over, you're more than welcome. I really liked having you there Tuesday night."

"You can be honest, you know," Gladio said, that soft expression on Nell's face tempering his teasing smirk down a little bit, albeit not by much. "You just like it because I bring over extra Cup Noodles^TM."

Honestly, though, if that were genuinely the case, he might just have to drop down on one knee and seal this deal once and for all.

"Oh, of course," Nell said. "No other reason at all. I mean, if you just wanted to drop some off, that would be fine. I can even stick some in an old pair of clothes and snuggle with them at night.

"If you get hungry in the middle of the night," Gladio mused, shrugging his shoulders a little and looking impressed as he considered how this might all play out, "then you've already got a snack right there, almost ready to go, just a little water and a few short minutes away from great, satisfying flavor to get you through 'til breakfast. I see nothing wrong with this plan."

"See, more that's what I thought!" Nell said with a smile.

" Though," she said, as of just coming to this conclusion, "they're not nearly as warm and cuddly as you are."

"Well, you probably just need hotter water for that first part," Gladio pointed out, "and I'd say it's pretty cuddly in your stomach after a good helping of Cup Noodle^TM..."

"True, true," Nell mused. "But is it as good at kissing as you are?"

"Couldn't tell you that one," Gladio informed her, regrettably. So regrettably, really, you could tell by the grin. "Never had a chance to kiss myself before."

"Mmmm..." Nell considered. "Well, I can assure you that you're decent enough at kissing. But there is one problem with Cup Noodle, hard as that is to admit."

"Decent enough?"

Excuse Gladio a moment while he lifted his brows and set a shocked hand to his chest for this unexpected slander.

"Clearly, I've been slacking off..."

"Well, I haven't had anything else to compare it to," Nell said innocently.

She...did have him there.

"You think you want to expand that experience?" Gladio asked, with the confidence of someone not in the least bit worried about how that would turn out for him.

"Why mess with perfection?" Nell asked. "Besides, I wouldn't love whoever it was I experimented with, so what would be the point?"
