Sam Eagle Presents: The Weird States of America, Thursday 9/28
"Hello again, students!"
Yes, once again Sam was beginning class at precisely the appointed time. Punctuality was so important to him.
"Last week we discussed Maryland." Sam gave a little shudder.
"This week we shall move on to a new state! Another unfortunately weird state." A shake of Sam's regal eagle head followed.
"Today we shall talk about Rhode Island."
Why? Because Sam was randomly choosing states out of a hat on Wednesday evening and yesterday he'd chosen Rhode Island.
"The majority of the state is not, in fact, an island. A terribly misleading name! What were our founding fathers thinking at the time? They must have been too busy working on building the country and fostering democracy!"
Sure, Sam. Sure.
"Rhode Island is also unusually small for a state. Smaller than any other! Ridiculously small if you ask me."
Nobody did, Sam. Nobody did.
"Rhode Island was one of the original colonies. That is certainly a point in the state's favor. However! It was the 13th. An unlucky number and clearly they were remiss in not existing earlier!"
What even.
"Another odd fact about Rhode Island is that it contains a replica of the Liberty Bell! Why would anyone need a replica when the original exists in Philadelphia and is so much more magnificent?"
Sam, were you just googling random facts before class? Almost certainly.
"Now, students, who has something else to add about Rhode Island? What makes it weird to you?"
