Sam Eagle, as was his tendency, was standing behind a podium at the front of the classroom waiting for the appointed time. At said time he cleared his throat and began speaking.

Best not to question how an oversized felt eagle could clear his throat.

“Good morning, students! Welcome to my newest class, Sam Eagle Presents: The Weird States of America! We will spend the next few months learning about this great country and all 50 weird states that make it up. America is a wonderful country but unfortunately her individual states are all quite weird.”

Sam shook his head sadly. “It is only when the states come together that they can truly be a great nation.”

Probably because without being together they wouldn’t be a nation at all, Sam.

“So, today, students, we shall introduce ourselves! Please state your name, your favorite state, and whether or not you can name all fifty of them. Extra credit will be awarded for answers that are not weird.”

Sam nodded at the students, looking for a volunteer. “Who would like to begin?”

Why

Will the ceiling still be leaking today? Will the bathrooms still look like horror movie sets?

I'm guessing yes to both.

"Hey, there!" Graham beamed at Sam, eager to be in another one of his classes....and clearly way too excited about his answer, because he was on it immediately. "I'm Graham! And my favorite state....is the state of BEING!"

Sorry, Sam. He thought he was hilarious.

"I'm Guillermo de la Cruz and my favourite state is ... uh ..." Guillermo faltered a bit as he tried to think of an answer, "New York?" it came out as more of a question than he intended, "um, I'm from the Bronx, I quite like New York," he considered.

Admittedly he had not been to too many other states.

Charlie Charlie bo Barlie, bonana fana fo Farlie, fee fi mo Marlie, Charlie! (Gale)

"Hey, I'm Charlie," she said cheerfully, this was Charlie afterall. "And I was going to say that my favorite state was the state of being, but someone already took that, so I'm going to go with... New York 'cause I'm in a... 'New York State of mind'."

Did she swing her guitar around and sing that last bit? She definitely did, Sam. Sorry, not sorry

Don't anyone mind the big, nearly face-splitting grin on Graham's face, shoulders squaring as he beamed with pride at hearing that he had been as clever as Charlie in something, but also slightly quicker on it, too.

Feels good, man!

Also, of course he was going to whistle and cheer loudly for the excellent impromptu performance, as well!

"Meep meep," Beaker said, pointing to himself, and then launched into an long, meeping ramble about his least favorite state--that of suspended animation--and how Dr. Honeydew should possibly think out experiments before freezing Beaker in place for many, many hours.

Did that have anything to do with the question Sam asked? Not really!

Gonzo was trying to sneak a crazy straw to his mouth so he could fire spit balls at Sam.

You know, as you do.

"Hi Sam!" Gonzo waved one floppy hand. "I'm Gonzo. My favorite state is probably confusion. Or Colorado. I once tried to go on a date with a giant man-eating chicken there! She was amazing!"

Gonzo was never going to get any extra credit in this class.

"And I can absolutely list the fifty states! Especially if you're not going to ask me to prove it."

"Well at least he didn't have a hammer," Gonzo mused.

Not that anyone but Beaker and maybe Sam would have any idea why that wasn't a total nonsequitor.

That totally got a high five from Charlie. Don't leave her hanging, Graham!

"Meep meep meep," Beaker agreed with a resigned nod.

He'd get around to telling Gonzo about the giant mechanical sledgehammer let loose on the island since last summer eventually.

Arthur Lester

"Arthur Lester," Arthur started. "I don't really..."

Say Massachusetts.

"Er...Massachusetts, I suppose. Why Massachusetts?"

It's fun to say. Also it's the only one I've been to.

"Because it's fun to say."
