Movie night, Friday

Had Jon been sleeping well this week? Of course not. But Jon never slept well, so he didn't look rougher than he ever did. Which at the moment was "moderately".

He still gave his best smile as he stood at the front of the room, because at least this wasn't any form of tea again.

"Um. Welcome to class. I'm Jonathan Sims. I think the idea behind this class is to catch up on modern pop culture, and so those of us - or maybe you - who know it can help the ones who don't. The, um. The moose had a suggestion for the first week's movie, so we're going to go with that this week." In the hopes that it would save him more tea later.

"Also we should probably still do introductions, I suppose. Um. Again, I'm Jonathan Sims. I'm from London in...well more or less modern times; I lost a couple years, but not much. And I'm here because the moose assigned me to it."

He nodded at the first person to start.

Irene Adler

"Irene Adler," she offered, fluttering out a little wave. "Also from London originally, though 'bout a decade back, now. I'm here mostly because it sounded like fun." She shrugged. "And I'm fairly well-versed in modern culture, so I don't need the catch-up bit so much."

That's what she thought; lofty talk from someone who had skipped the vast majority of the superhero genre boom of the 2010s.

Amaya Blackstone

Connor Temple

"Connor Temple, another London native it seems," he said when it was his turn. "I decided to take this class because it sounded like fun and because well, outside the sci-fi geek-themed movies and such I am afraid I am not well versed. Figure this would be a good way to expand that a bit and get out a little more."

"Hello." Jon nodded to her. "To be fair, I'm not from London originally, just recently. You'll probably be able to help quite a bit with the pop culture, though."

"Amaya Blackstone," Amaya offered, with a stout nod. "Not from London." HA! Combo breaker! She should not be as proud of that as she was. "Not even of this world, really, and from a place that doesn't even have electricity," until she got back there, anyway, and then boy howdy!, "much less movies, so I've always been a bit interested in them as a whole. Used to teach a class like this myself, actually, for a bit, so it's just good to see it back, really."

And cue the groan and subsequent roll of Amaya's eyes once she realized that, yup, sure enough, right out the gate, they were getting into the mushy stuff.

But at least it wasn't a musical!

Rosa Diaz

"Hello." Jon nodded. "Maybe we should all take a crash course in those obnoxious American movies, then. Or subject everyone to odd British drama." Though he would probably bitch at the screen during those.

"I'd be more than happy to take any suggestions you might have for films," Jon said. "Honestly, the moose just dropped this in my lap, and at least it wasn't tea."

Rosa briefly considered using one of her aliases for her introduction, especially since so many people in the class knew it was an obvious lie, but ultimately she just shrugged and admitted "Rosa Diaz. I'm from Brooklyn, not even all that time displaced, I just love going to these classes because what goes on during them is sometimes even more entertaining than the movies themselves."

Oh, the stories she could tell you all. And, really, the existence of Movie Class had been the catalyst for her whole current relationship, so...she wasn't missing this one for anything.

"More action," said Amaya, immediately, maybe even before Jon finished the bit about the moose and tea, but she had very strong views on this one. "More adventure. I know it's a big ask to say no mushy stuff or musicals, so if we can keep it to a minimum, that'd be great. Women with guns? Always a winner. Dragons? That can be hit or miss, but usually fine. Usually, they're laughably bad, though, so you get a good time out of it. Spaceships are always good. Also, any of those Japanese ones with the big monsters that are clearly just rubber costumes."

What? He'd asked, hadn't he?

"If ya need any ideas for some nice British detective dramas and the like I got ya covered!" Connor said with a grin. It as the one genre outside geeky/ superhero/ bad B movie Horror that he knew anything about really.

"I've always wanted to try pottery," Irene commented in a light undertone, happily munching her popcorn. "Looks like fun."

She'd seen this before, of course, and knew that it was mushy straight through. Poor, poor Amaya.

"Probably," Irene replied with a knowing little smile. "Helps when you've met an actor or two. Any plans for anything foreign? Not just British stuff but -- y'know, stuff we might need to read?"

Irene loved a good Korean drama.

"Nell Ingram, from just outside Knoxville, Tennessee. Haven't every seen many movies in my life, so I thought this might be fun," she said with a smile.
