"Also, I have decided not to return to Fandom after this term. I hope you've learned something with me, and I wish you all a safe, regret-free life."

Phoebe turns in her final project

Marty turns in his Shakespearean sonnet. It's about a girl whose hair is dyed red.

Kiki turns in her assignment, a sonnet.

"Aloft

What sights are these to dance before my eyes?
What dreams, what thoughts, what ideas to take their wing
‘Cross the endless canvas of the skies
Sailing, soaring in the boundless Spring?
This the sun in adoration views
Painted soft and bright with gentle brush
In rainbow tints of warm and radiant hues
Under which the gentle winds of morning rush,
Bearing up the light; this, too, aglow,
To give a deeper azure than the sea,
Unfathomed, where does this vast ocean go?
For nothing else will give its joy so free,
Than this the brilliant blue, the thrill of height
And the wonderous, glorious grace of flight."

Having tried her best, Sharon turned in what was probably a middling to awful sonnet. There might have been references to toasters in it.

Why not?

"Excuse me sir, I had to leave campus for a while and missed classes. Is there anything I need to do to make up for class?"

"Er, yes. How many weeks were you out again?"

"Three weeks sir," Marty said humbly.

I won't give you a topic.

"Girls, you'll be happy to know that you'll both be receiving As for your Independent Study. Any minus or plus modifiers are to be determined, however."

"For our last meeting, let's talk about what you've taken away from this experience through literature and poetry."

"It's been a nice experience to discuss the things we've been reading with a smaller group and being allowed to share our own interpretations of the text instead of being expected to follow along everyone else's guides."

"I definitely agree. Plus, it's allowed me to read things I probably wouldn't have read on my own," Kiki nodded. "For example, I probably wouldn't have picked up 'Lysistrata' had it not been assigned, but it was really an enjoyable read."

"Exactly!" Phoebe agreed. "I never would have read it if it hadn't been for this." She grinned at Kiki. "And then there was our interpretation of Inferno, too."

"That," Kiki admitted, "I probably would never have finished after the punishment for witches, honestly, just because it made me so angry at first."

Phoebe nodded. "If I hadn't had you and Geoff to discuss it with, I never would have finished it." She smiled. "Now? I'm glad I did."

"I am sorry I wasn't able to keep the same pace as Mr. Chaucer. It's part of the reason I'm not returning next term. Life in Fandom just runs a little too fast for me..."

Phoebe tilted her head at Miles. "I've accepted that Fandom can be really scary... but there are things that make it worthwhile, too. The students like you."
