Paintball!, Thursday - 4th Period

The rubber chickens from Shenanigans were back! Or maybe they were stolen from Skywalker. Could be both.

"Today we're going to be trying something new," Tony said cheerfully.

"Yesterday's team building exercise was inspiring," Steve agreed, "but it would have been even more fun if those trying to be tagged had been armed with paint guns!"

For a certain definition of fun, sure.

"And blindfolded!" Guys, no.

Oh, but Steve was so excited about this! "Everyone grab some chickens for your feet, a harmonica for your mouth, a blindfold, and a paint gun."

Squeaky rubber chickens? Check. Harmonica? Check. Paintball gun? Check.

"This wasn't even fun the first time!" Summer insisted. "And now we're adding guns to it?"

Well, paintball guns, but still!

Or maybe Summer just felt like complaining, that was also an option.

"I won this morning," Stark said smugly. "In lava class. Maybe I can win again?"

Doubtful. Anakin would probably cheat.

"But repeating this with paintball guns seems...unwise."

"Repeating this at all is unwise," Summer stated, with emphasis, but sort of in a way to make that crystal clear and get it out of the way before she lifted her brows in an impressed look toward Stark.

"And you did? Again?" She grinned, with a little pleased click of her tongue. "Well, look at you. And, I mean, you've done it before, right? You could definitely do it again. Double-win. And if you did..."

There was a little pause, a little moment of knowing all about motivation.

"Then we'd have to celebrate again, too, won't we?"

"I did," Stark confirmed. "I made it all the way to the end. No jello lava on me at all."

He grinned at her. "I'd like to celebrate again. With you."

Stark was going to be so disappointed.

"Although we could celebrate if you won, as well."

A little disappointment in life was important. It...build character, or something. Right?

"Oh," said Summer, with conviction, "we will definitely celebrate if I win."

Summer, too, would be very disappointed, and for some reason, the fact that her performance would be so utterly and completely mid would make it just that much more painful, really.

Maybe they could commiserate instead. Help each other get the paint off, if nothing else. In a friendly way.

"I hope one of us wins then. Very much."

What kind of friends didn't help each other with getting paint off, in a friendly way, anyway?

"Well, then," said Summer, flashing Stark a grin, "good luck out there. May the best blindfolded chicken-shoed, harmonica-mouthed paint shooter win."

Not these two very good friends, obviously!

"Good luck," Stark echoed. "We'll celebrate, I hope. Or if we can't celebrate perhaps...a drink to drown our sorrows? After we've gotten rid of the paint. Of course."

"Mm-mm." Summer shook her head. "Nope. No pity drinks. It's either all or nothing."

That was how motivation worked, Stark. Where would the drive, the determination, the bloodlust be if you were getting something out of it either way?

The drive to shoot Anakin was ever-present, Summer!

"Nothing?" Stark said, trying and failing to hide his disappointment at that. "At all? Not even to celebrate my first win of the day?"

Summer looked at Stark thoughtfully for a long, considering moment.

"Okay," she allowed. "The first win does deserve something, you're right. We can let a potential failure completely erase it."

"A smaller celebration?" Stark suggested innocently. "Something that doesn't involve going anywhere?"

That last part was earning Stark a little bit of a side-eye, albeit probably a little amused by the way it looked like she was trying not to smirk a little.

"A small celebration," she agreed. "Maybe with, like....a cupcake or something."

Stark nodded. "That's fair. A cupcake then. For winning earlier. And something bigger if one of us wins now."

Which they wouldn't because Anakin was a big fat cheater.

"A cupcake for earlier," Summer confirmed with a pleased nod. "Something bigger if I win and something even bigger than that," her brow hitched inticingly, "if you win again."

Not that all these attempts at further incentive and intrigue would do them any good.

The cupcake would taste of chocolate and missed opportunities.

"One cupcake to share? Or one for each of us?"

"I mean," said Summed, "it was your lava victory, that's up to you."

....honestly, she mostly just wanted to see what he would pick, between those two.

"I like sharing with you," Stark pointed out. "But if we each got a cupcake we could get different kinds and still share."

Best of both worlds!

That was a pretty elegant solution, wasn't it? And maybe made Summer feel better about the answer not being firmly sharing, without her having to develop a potential complex out of the answer being getting their own.

"Perfect," Summer said. "That's a good answer, Stark."

They had not mentioned anything about not using powers. Anakin smirked as he tied his blindfold around his eyes.

Oh, it'll be fun!

Steve was needlessly cocky about how well he'd do here today based on his expertise acquired in several hours yesterday.

Stark was trying his best. He was! And he was going to be so sad when Anakin cheated.
