Yoga; Thursday, Second Period [06/08].

""So, the last couple of weeks," Rosa started, rolling her shoulders a little, as well as her head, to sort of get herself in the yoga mindset once it was time to get class going; she shook out her limbs a little, "I've tossed around the term 'eight limbs of yoga', which refers to a lot of the conceptual stuff, and we've covered two of them: pranayama and pratyahara. But since none of us are about to reach samadhi in a seven-week summer course, we're going to be spending the rest of our classes focusing on asana, which are the various physical postures. Your poses and moves, that kind of thing.

"We've got a wide range of abilities in this class," she noted, "so I'm sure some of you will struggle with these while some of you could do them in your sleep. The former, I want you to just focus on understanding the poses and how they work and just doing them. The latter, work on refining the poses and just focus on your pranayama and pratyahara. We'll start, as always, with our sun salutations, and then we'll get into some new poses to start working into your practices."

Striking a pose.

You should know the steps of the sun salutation pretty well by now, maybe without even having to think about it. But you still should, even though it's familiar. Especially if it's now familiar. That's the whole point.

Rosa's going to take some time to introduce everyone to the boat pose, the bow pose, the dolphin plank, the eagle, and, for the more ambitious, crane pose.

Choose one or two to focus on (or work through all of them if you're feeling ambitious) and see how it goes.

With a new sequence this week, too! Follow along, stretch those muscles you've just put to work, and then call it a good day.

Hopefully. This was assuming no one, like, snapped their back in half or anything.

Because apparently you like to ruin perfect good and fine classes.

Gladiolus Amicitia

You know? It was starting to feel pretty familiar at this point, where Gladio felt he could start focusing less on the little things like placement and more on how the movements of the sun salutation were helping to warm him up for something more and how to maybe push them a little further for better effect. It was definitely something he was looking forward to every week, anyway, and something he was thinking he needed to incorporate more often.

He hadn't quite gotten to the point of making the guys do a few reps before their morning runs, but maybe he should be doing that, too.

Nell Ingram

Nell was here and very much enjoying the warm-up. And the company.

"Morning," she said cheerfully.

The company was definifely a highlight of the class.

"Morning," Gladio answered back, with a little nod, a faint grin.

"You're getting very good at this," Nell said. What? She couldn't help but notice. It's not as if she was... well, okay, maybe she was a little because, well... look at him. ANd in any case, he was improving. And nice to watch.

"Aww, you're just sayin' that," Gladio's grin grew, "'cause it's true."

Yeah, no, modesty had never really been his thing.

"But thanks." There may have been a little bit of preening, now, in the lift of his chin, the position of his shoulders, and even if he knew he'd been improving, it was always nice to have it be noticed. Especially, maybe, by certain people. "I've been practicing.

Obviously, the guy with the massive eagle tattoo covering almost the entirety of his back and arms was going to have a favorite out of this set, even if he was sort of disappointed in it. Something called the eagle should be a lot cooler than what it was. He gave some of the other ones a few tries and consideration, too, but mostly just out of obligation to justify spending the rest of his time showing off with the crane pose.

What? Upper arm strength was where he shined. But he had to admit, it took a lot more focus and concentration than he'd initially given it credit for, with how easy Diaz made it look.

Nell laughed. "So humble! And you're welcome. I can tell you've been practicing. I've been doing it myself sometimes. Up on my roof. Either in the morning or at night under the stars."

Anyone walking at night could probably see her silhouetted up there.

"See, and all's I've got is pretty much our balcony or the beach before we start our lap around the island." Gladio's grin softened with a touch of envy, although it had maybe a little less to do Nell's rooftop being a nicer location and a little more toward the bees that'd get to keep her company while she did it. "That's good, though. That sounds nice."

And nice and open, too, rather than hidden in between clothing lines like he remembered her telling him about.

"Well, maybe sometime you could... I mean, if you wanted..." What did she want to say? Was it too forward? "I mean... there is enough space on my roof for two people. If sometime you wanted..."

She was blushing again, wasn't she? She was, she knew she was.

Dwight Hendrickson

Dwight never thought he would be at that point but it was feeling a little less awkward each time they did these so... progress at least? He still wasn't sure how to get himself into all the positions as smoothly as needed but progress was progress.

OK so that confidence from the warmups quickly faded watching the new poses... How was he supposed to do most of those?

And Gladio knew she was, too, because, well, he had eyes that worked. As well as a grin he couldn't keep off his face and a slight shake of his head for wondering how he was expected to balance both yoga and that level of endearing cuteness...

...not to mention the knowledge that it probably wasn't just a certain shyness or bashfulness behind these blushing invitations, but breaking down a whole lifetime of indoctrination...

"I don't know about that," he said, grin still in place, but softer. "I'm a pretty big guy, I can take up enough space for two people pretty easily..."

She smiled over at him shy, but sweet. "More room than I had between my drying sheets back home. You'd never have fit there. Plus, your head would have stuck out the top." Which was a funny enough image that she had to laugh a little.

"I think there's enough room on the roof without having to worry that one of us will fall over the edge."

"Well," said Gladio, shrugging a little into his next transition of the warm-up, with a soft smile for the thought of Nell placing him there in her memories like that, and for the wildly complicated knot of thoughts and emotions it revealed itself to be if you looked at it even a little bit too hard, so he just looked over at her instead, "only one way to find out for sure, right?"

"I suppose there is," she said blushing a bit more. "So, any time you see me up there you can just come up the back stairs and knock on the roof door."

Gladio nodded. "I'll definitely keep that in mind," he said, thinking he might need to work a few more casual evening strolls around the island into his routine. Every once in a while. "Thanks."

"I see you all sometimes in the morning when I'm running," she said with a smile, "But all you all run so fast I don't think I could keep up."

"We've been at it for a while," Gladio allowed, "and you had to be pretty quick, if you wanted to outrun daemons and behemoths. But don't feel too bad. Pretty sure the only reason Prompto can push himself to keep pace is just because he knows if the faster he it, the faster he'll be done."

"I can only imagine," Nell said. "Guess I'd get faster then, too, running for my life and all."

But she couldn't help but smile at the idea of Prompto running fast just to get done sooner. "I s'pose it works, whatever your reason is."
