Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Even if a new term wasn't starting soon, today would be the perfect day for a picnic. The weather was calm and warm, the food table was full, and there was a respectable amount of glitter on the decorations. There might have been a bigger party going on somewhere else, but here it was time to celebrate the start of summer!

"Detective Watts," she greeted him in turn. "I'm well; and yourself?"

“No complaints to speak of,” he replied. “Though I do have a question for you.”

"I'll do my best to answer," she said. "What can I do for you?"

“I’ve signed myself up for the workshop you’re offering,” he explained, in case she hadn’t had a chance to look at the roster. “And I was wondering if perhaps you’d worked out an itinerary already.”

"Oh, lovely!" Lana smiled. "I'm pleased to have you along. I know most of the places I'd like to go, but I haven't worked out an exact itinerary yet. Did you have a request?"

“Not as such,” Watts admitted. “It’s only that I was hoping to find out some basic information about the locations we would be visiting prior to our arrival.”

"Well, we'll be starting with Odessen, the planet my Alliance calls home," Lana said. "It's temperate, and the base is built into a mountain. There should be no dangers, provided you don't stray too far outside the base without a guide. I'm not sure what you're looking to learn, though."

“Just- what to expect, I suppose,” Watts shrugged. “Climate is a good start. Perhaps a little on what might be considered polite or impolite. That sort of thing.”

Lana nodded. "Don't worry; I'll always let you know ahead of time. I was going to send out the climate information this afternoon, actually. And we're starting at home, so if anyone has a problem with you, they'll go through me first." Was that encouraging?

"For the most part, the rules will be the same where we're going as they are here in Fandom: be polite, err on the side of caution if you're not sure, and remember that everyone is from different backgrounds and species. I won't be bringing the class into any active warzones or anywhere a single misstep will get you hurt."

Well, she wasn't planning on it, anyway.

“I see,” Watts nodded. “I am not- overly fond of surprises,” he admitted. “So I was hoping to mitigate that somewhat.” Yes, he was aware of the fact that he had done this to himself in signing up at all. It’s just that his curiosity had won him over in that respect.

"It's possible to hook up a local phone to the galactic holonet," Lana offered. "Similar to the internet here. You could look up things like our history and major planets. Although I'd recommend doing quite a bit of research if you opt for it; the Empire and the Republic have very different views on most everything."
