Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Even if a new term wasn't starting soon, today would be the perfect day for a picnic. The weather was calm and warm, the food table was full, and there was a respectable amount of glitter on the decorations. There might have been a bigger party going on somewhere else, but here it was time to celebrate the start of summer!

"Of course, of course." Steven squatted down to get at eye level with Noctra but still giving her ample personal space. He waved his fingers at her. "Hello there. It's nice to meet you. Are you here to teach classes like your dad?"

Fingers were very familiar, bit this face was not, so after a moment of distraction with those fingers, Noctra's eyes shifted a little and then just widened and stared for a bit. Even with so many other things to stare at, but faces that were different were easily the most interesting.

Until a bird flew by or something, then her mind might just be fucking blown.

"Maybe not teaching yet," said Prompto with a chuckle, "but she might make for a pretty cute assistant one of the days. In the meantime, though, I signed her up for paintball."

He did not, in fact, do such a thing,but now he realized he probably should have signed himself up for that one, damn...

"Hello there," Steven said, gently, when he saw Noctra trying to figure out what to make of him. His smile was in no danger of leaving, since how could he not smile while looking at such an adorable baby?

Then what Prompto said caught up to him. "Signed her up for - oh! That's funny. Though she might have some advantage there, being so small. Harder to spot if she's careful."

"Harder to spot," Prompto agreed with a nod, "much smaller target, and her dad's a helluva shot, too, if I do say so myself, so she's got that going for her..."

Of course, that just made him think about how shooting was practically imbedded in her genes, and he regretted that with a faint wrinkle of his nose.

"That class isn't even going to know what hit 'em! But, hey," his attention shifted a little from Noctra's fascination on how other people existed for a moment, to the focus of that attention himself, "how've you been, man? Seems a while since we've had a chance to catch up."

Steven had a look of sympathy for Prompto's quick moment of regret. But Steven didn't push. Instead he stood up to be able to more easily look Prompto in the eye as they caught up. "I know! Just back in from out of town, actually. But busy so long before that. Keep meaning to make it over to the Photo Hut to say hello and feels like something always pops up to get in the way.

"Oh! Speaking of, thank you for helping Llewellyn with the digital frames. Mine works a treat. Got it on my shelves back in the flat. You'd think it was made to be there, it looks so perfect."

"Yeah?" asked Prompto, grinning with a faint touch of pride to it. "That's good to hear. And, I mean, don't mention it; it's literally my job, after all. I almost feel bad for him, practically pounced on him when he came in, just glad to have a customer. I will say one thing about the Photo Hut gig, and that's that I rarely have to worry about being overwhelmed over there, you know?"

"So popping by for a visit is all right?" Steven asked. "I don't want to be a bother. Especially when you've this lovely girl to keep you busy."

"Popping by for a visit," Prompto assured him, "is defintiely alright. It's not a bother at all, Steven. If anything, I get a little bored most of the time, unless I've got a camera to work on or some new stock to filter through, so the distraction would be nice. And we've got a bassinet for Noctra behind the counter now, when she does want to hang out, but, usually, when one of us is in the shop, the other's keeping an eye on her.

"I could probably stand to pop by the museum every once in a while to say hi, myself. I don't think I've actually ever been there!"

"We are tucked away in our little corner of the island," Steven said, to show there were no hard feelings there either on his behalf or the museum's, as it were. "Though the nice thing is it makes it a good place to go if you'd care for quiet. For us the peace is more of a feature.

"Oh!" Steven perked up when he realized, "We do have animals though. Fish and bugs. Bet she'd love to see those when she's old enough. But of course you're welcome any time regardless."

"Ugh, bugs!" Prompto immediately had to make a face, sticking out his tongue and shaking his head a little. "Hard pass on those. No thanks! But fish! I mean, actually, I feel that might be risky, too, if she takes after her namesake, we'll have an obsession on our hands."

"My boss feels the same as you," Steven said. "Doesn't care for bugs in the slightest. I've learned not to mention them when he's about. Fish are all right. I've two myself at home. Goldfish. Coming on a year keeping them alive, actually."

Steven was rather proud of this accomplishment.

"Hey, now, that's pretty good!" Clearly, Prompto was impressed as well! "Aren't goldfish, like, notorious for being pretty short lived, too? At nearly a year old, those guys are practically wise elders, right?"

"I imagine we'll know they've reached that stage when their long, white beards come in," Steven said, grinning. "That's usually the indicator, yeah?"
