Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Even if a new term wasn't starting soon, today would be the perfect day for a picnic. The weather was calm and warm, the food table was full, and there was a respectable amount of glitter on the decorations. There might have been a bigger party going on somewhere else, but here it was time to celebrate the start of summer!

[We're going OCD-free! Have at it!]

"I mean," said Summer, "it's Cinco de Mayo, it's kind of like St. Patrick's Day, it's all sort of one big party, just way more...."

She trailed off, not having the brain to find the word right away.

"Obgregious?"

That was obnoxious and egregious all in one!

"But it was nice to party without needing to plan it. Man, when was the last time I did even plan a party? Your birthday? No.."

She lifted a hand that would have snapped, but she wasn't about to subject her poor head to that much sound from her own body.

"Spring break jello party....right? Wait, was that before or after Purim? Ohmygooood," she groaned, holding her head, "why am I trying to think right now??"

"You did a very good job at the room party on the trip," Stark said.

Especially considering the circumstances. Stark was wise enough not to bring those up.

"That's the best of the trips I've ever been on. You have a birthday, next month. Will there be a party for that?"

"I don't know," Summer said, honestly enough, with a faint frown. "Probably."

And she'd probably be planning it, too, because god forbid anyone actually plan a party for her for a change. And she made a face at that thought and washed it away with some more coffee and thought that if someone else threw it for her, it wouldn't be as good, so it was probably better she did it, anyway. Except maybe Margo. She'd accept Margo and Eliot being behind her birthday party...

And then she frowned at Stark. "Don't make me start planning parties while I'm hungover, Stark, that's just mean."

"I didn't mean to be mean," Stark said, smiling faintly. "I would never. Not to you. I just meant to ask a question. That was all."

There was an urge, being firmly repressed, to pull her into a hug. Maybe kiss her forehead. Offer a bit of comfort because while hangovers weren't the end of the world they were certainly uncomfortable.

And they were usually better planned so that Summer didn't have to show up and be a good example for children while she had one, she could usually just curl up with her cat and take-out food and be better by the following day, but nooooo, welcome picnic had to be on Seis de Mayo, didn't it?

She gave Stark a slightly apologetic smile, huddling around her coffee a little. "Sorry," she said. "I'm a little cranky right now."

"You're allowed to be cranky. Your head hurts. I'm not always pleasant when I'm hurting. But you know that."

Stark's smile was crooked but it was there.

"I hope it's better soon."

"My everything hurts, Stark," Summer corrected him. "Even my hair hurts."

Because that was, after all, a classic.

"I'll be fine as soon as Lana shows up. If she does."

She was going to be so disappointed if Lana didn't show up.

"Her Force healing for hangovers is seriously the best."

"I didn't know she could help with that," Stark said.

A pause.

"Your hair hurts?"

He could help with pain, a little. Take some of it. Someday he might offer but it felt like too much.

"My hair hurts," Summer confirmed, with a sort of confidence and insistence that would clearly brook no argument, "yes. And she's great at it, she really helped me out a lot with that over spring break, and it feels amazing."

There was a slight pause, filled with coffee, which she was tragically going to be running out of soon.

"I've been looking forward to it all day."

Forget that she'd pretty much just rolled out of bed and headed over here.

Someone here would happily have stroked that hair until it felt better if he thought he could get away with it.

"I hope she arrives soon then. I'd rather you weren't hurting."

He would definitely not be able to get away with it.

"Meeeeeeeee, tooooooooooo," said Summer, emphatically, as she drank the last of her coffee and the frowned at the cup that would betray her so completely by being empty now.

"Do they have coffee over there? Please tell me they have coffee over there."

He knew that. That was why he didn't make an attempt.

"There is coffee. I could bring you some, if you like? With plenty of sugar."
somethingwithturquoise: (looking all o.o)

"No, it's fine," Summer said, popping the lid off her cup and attempting to eke out whatever little remaining drop had been left, before starting to head over toward where the drinks were. "I can get it. I kinda wanna check out what food they have, too. My stomach is a mess, but I am starving right now, too."

"There seemed to be a little of everything," Stark said. "I had a lot of things when I first got here. I know there's pizza."
somethingwithturquoise: (simple listening)

"They've always been pretty good, about stuff like that," Summer noted. "Out of all the things that could be said about the school picnics, not enough food I like has never been one of them."

But she paused, as she thought about it a little more.

"Well, I'm sure someone has complained at some point, but you get what I mean."

"Raiden might not think it's enough," Stark said thoughtfully. "But I would think it's plenty for everyone else. I've always been impressed by the amount of food here. For so many things."
