The Hylian Bestiary; Thursday, Third Period [04/13].

"Good morning, everyone!" Would Sidon ever greet his class with anything but the utmost of cheerfulness and excitement? Probably not! If he ever did, then it would be fair to be a bit worried, but there was nothing to worry about today as he beamed at the students. "Welcome back! I hope you've had a wonderful week and are ready to hear of more magnificent beasts, because today, we are talking about some grand ones indeed, legendary, in fact, to the point where most people have never even seen them! Today, we're talking about Hyrule's Dragons!"

"In Hylian legend, there are three Golden Goddesses, Din, Farore, and Nayru, and from these goddesses, there used to be great and fearsome dragons: Dinraal!" Here, to add even more of an element of excitement, Sidon swung a fist in front of himself. "Farosh!" And there went the other fist! "And Naydra!" Both fists pumped the air in toward his chest. "Each of the dragons are said to also be connected to a different element and a certain area of Hyrule, which are also connected to the Springs, as well. Dinraal and the Spring of Power connect with the Akkala, Eldin, and Tabantha regions and the element of fire! Farosh is connected to the Spring of Courage, the Faron and Gerudo regions and the element of lighting! Which then leaves Naydra, connected with the Spring of Wisdom and Lanayru, my own region, and the element of ice!

"There is debate among Hylian scholars," he continued with a chuckle, "as to whether or not the three dragons were actual dragons, dragon gods, or merely elemental spirits that took the form of a dragon, which I think begs the question: if something takes the form of something, is it not also that thing? There are also some who say that the dragons are mere legends and never truly existed, but I shall let you all in on a little secret!" He leaned forward, and though his voice was still quite loud and booming, he modified it to a sort of stage whisper, one hand to his mouth to complete the effect, "I had a very good friend named Norman who could actually see the spirits of the dead, and when he came with me on a visit to Hyrule once, he informed me that he could actually see a dragon, flying across the very sky! None of us in the company were able to witness such a thing, but due to his unique gift, he was blessed to get a glimpse of these mighty creatures, and he assured me that they were more majestic and magnificent than you could ever imagine!

"But," Sidon threw out with a wink, "there is a good chance that one must not strictly be able to see spirits if one wishes to see the dragons of Hyrule! They say that those who possess Hylia's Blessing may also see the dragons, and there have been reports of some sightings in current eras, though those who claim to see them all have one thing in common: they have all been children! Is this merely the fanciful imagination of spirited youth spinning a grand yarn of hopeful yearning? Or is there something more to it, that when we are children, we are more pure of heart, and therefor more likely to experience such blessings? Truly, a question we may never have the answer to.

"So, elemental or real, the dragons of Hyrule may not exist in their physical form over Hyrule any longer, but they are certainly there in spirit, and I dare say, if you allow yourself to feel the power of their presence in the lands where draw their energy, you may very well feel them there, even if your eye cannot see them! Some have even claimed to have seen the shadow of the dragons flying overhead even though there is no such creature in the sky at that time! Can you imagine? I believe that just goes to show that there is more around us than strictly meets the eye!

"Naturally, such powerful creatures have a great many other stories about them, as well. Take, for example, the Dueling Peaks, two mountains that are said to have once been one, but one of the dragon gods split it into its current broken form to forge a path for themselves! More than likely, based on where the Dueling Peaks is located, the culprit is probably Farosh. I suppose," he chuckled lightly, "they couldn't be bothered to just go around. Perhaps they were merely in a hurry!

"And with that," Sidon concluded happily, "I now turn to you and your thoughts! Are there legends of dragons where you're from? What are they like, and do they differ from Hyrule's dragons? Do you think that the dragons are indeed quite real, but can only be seen by a select few? Or do you suppose they are mere figments of imagination and lore, built out of some fanciful idea? And if that is the case...what purpose does such a story have? Have you ever seen a dragon yourself? Are you a dragon?"

He had to laugh a little at that last one; it hadn't happened yet, but around here? He wouldn't be surprised at all! He looked over the students eagerly. "Who would like to share their thoughts first?"
