Tactics of War, Monday, 6 - 8 PM FHT

Admiral Harrington is standing at the front of the room, arms folded across her chest, most of her weight resting on the table behind her. Anyone paying exceptionally close attention might notice she is favoring her left leg just a bit, a result of allowing the training bot to slip past her guard. Nimitz is on the table, guarding a plate of cookies with an impish gleam -- because hey, they're not celery, but he's never known Mac to make anything bad.

"My apologies, but I'm afraid I don't have a lecture prepared for you this evening. Please sign in, turn in your papers, and you're free to grab a cookie then disappear for the evening. Nimitz and I will be available after class if you have any questions or concerns."

She smiles and hovers near the front to attend to any questions or discussion.

Since Marty doesn't have a class today, he decides to crash Tactics of War.

He signs in as Clarence.

"Ooo! Cookie! Thanks Ms. Teacher!" Marty says eating the cookie and then sitting down to take the exam.

Callisto most likely did quite well at any general questions, excelled at any questions appling to lower technology situations, and was competent in any to do with higher tech situations.

Her answers might have tended towards the more ruthless and brutal though.

Anakin, who'd worked on the test pretty obsessively for the last two weeks, turned in a meticulously cross-referenced and edited final exam, drawing extensively from the works of Machiavelli, Sun Tsu and the Jedi Masters.

His strategic answers tended to focus, occasionally brutally, on the bottom line rather than the people involved.

[OOC: Crazy focused Jedi-type probably ruined the curve. A.]

Alanna's answers were long and tried to take into account every single thing that could possibly occur. Some of her examples might seem a bit unfamiliar to someone not from her world, though.

Pip did excellent on the the exam, but did particularly well on the parts involving smaller group tactics.

His answers were more likely than not to lean towards creative, unorthidox solutions that had a general blatant disregard for rules while at the same time having something of a focus on getting it through with as many people alive as possible. Mercenaries don't have the luxury of vast amounts of troops.

Aeryn probably did pretty well in general, sticking to logical, very thorough responses, though an answer or two might contradict itself. It's pretty much a mix of trying to go with the safe solution and deciding some things are necessary if there's a point to it.

Ivanova would have done pretty well on her exam. With the already having been through military academy and such.

[[And I crash. *sleeps*]]

Re: Turn in Assignments

Parker's exam was well-researched with sources from Machiavelli, Admiral Nelson, Sun Tzu, and as Honor had suggested him to Parker, Thomas Paine. Some of the answers were cautiously worded, and some relied on truly Byzantine explanations to make her points (mostly to conceal a extreme idealism for the best solutions possible). However, there's very few logical fallacies, and almost all of her proposals for warfare are practical and have long-term consequences accounted for.

[now in the right place!]

Marty would probably do pretty well on an exam. Clarence on the other hand would probably suck at it.

So he answers the questions in a very silly manner. Mostly he writes things about how sandwiches should be made in a manner where the hot side stays hot and the cool side stays cool until the sandwich is finally put together and then eaten in a zen like state of bliss, after which you send troops out into the field to kill, murder and maim the enemy.

There might be a footnote about cat's breath smelling like cat food.

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-04-25 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam probably did very well on her exam, but her focus had a tendency to either be on the scientific or technological solution (occasionally rambling a little about wonders of the technology involved) or to look at the difference between being a commander in the field with organized forces or the use of guerilla tactics.

Some of her tactical solutions may have seemed implausible or impossible at first, but with the proper use of technology, allies, the occasional death of an archeologist, and a good deal of luck, they should be successful.

Cameron did pretty well. His answers were pretty thorough although they tended to be textbook. Usually he leans towards answers where he tries to spare lives, but he will push and take risks if the cause warrants it. While he did a good job, it's not up to his usual standard as the whole alien possession thing kinda messed with his brain.

Janet turned in a well-written essay, erring on the side of caution when dealing with others, and generally dealt better with higher-tech situations. A large part of her focus tended to be on minimizing injuries and casualties if at all possible, and her research citations were thorough and complete.

Bridge finally turns in his final exam. To say he thinks outside the box would be something of an understatement, but his answers, however unsual, are well thought-out and supported. They also indicate a strong bias towards waiting for the *other* side to escalate a battle. A lot of his discussion centers around how a small, properly-trained group could effectively take out a much larger force.

Re: After Class/OOC

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-04-25 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Still munching on the cookie, Pip approached Honor after he turned in his test. "Is this your only semester at Fandom, or do you plan on staying on, Professor Harrington?"

Re: After Class/OOC

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-04-25 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Pip nodded. "Planning on teaching the same class, or something different?"
