The Hylian Bestiary; Thursday, Third Period [03/16].
When they came into the classroom that day, the students would find not only Sidon's heartfelt but misguided attempts at drawing a few skeletal figures on the board, but also, on the desk at the front of the room, several bones, inexpertly arranged in an attempt to recreate the hopefully now familiar shape of a lizalfos. Totally normal thing for a class! And Sidon was clearly very proud of this find, as indicated by the brightness of his toothy grin.
"Today," he started, with clear excitement, "we are going to be talking about something a little spooky, a little frightening. Today, we are going to talk about stals!
"This," he gestured toward the bones on the desk, "is the inanimate corpse of a stalizalfos, but fear not! It has no power here, as the stal are directly linked to Hyrule's nighttime and the power of Calamity Ganon. Therefor, it is well beyond its realm of power all the way here in Fandom. There are stal versions of many of Hyrule's creatures that we have talked about before, such as stalkoblins, stalmoblins, and I've even heard rumors of a stalhorse, as well as some we have not covered yet, such as a stalnox, which comes from the Hinox, which we will be getting to shortly.
"When it comes to their fighting styles and preferred arms, the stal versions of Hylian monsters are very similar to their living counterparts, but due to the fact that they are no flesh and all bone, you will find them quite a bit more fragile, and if you're a good shot, you can quickly dispose of them with a well-aimed arrow to their skulls. Most of their danger comes from their unexpected nature; nighttime in Hyrule is fraught with many dangers, and not knowing where a stal might be lurking in the shadows is certainly one of them! They appear quite innocuous as a pile of bones at first, and only reanimate fully when an enemy is nearby.
"For the most part, while there is not too much to a stal, they do exist as a very strong reminder of the Calamity's influence, and the way in which it has a habit of twisting and perverting my homeworld to its grotesque will: not even in death are we creatures of Hyrule safe from its grasp. Thankfully, it is only but a few creatures who have emerged under this particular influence, but some theorize that the appearance of stalhorses show that Calamity Ganon, should he grow stronger, would absolutely not stop at those denizens already under his influence, but may one day find the ability to resurrect all of Hyrule.
"A chilling thought indeed, especially when one considers also the event of the Blood Moon: every so often, at the very peak of midnight, the Hylian moon and sky will be cast in a brilliant red the color of blood, an effect of Calamity Ganon once more exerting his influence. And when the Blood Moon occurs, he has the ability to call forth all those under his power back from the grave, often stronger and more fierce than they were before. So when even death is not a deterrent for these soldiers of the Calamity, you can understand why it is that maintaining a modicum of peace and prosperity in Hyrule is a task of the utmost diligence and truly may be an unending battle, until the Calamity is finally put to rest."
Or until it finally consumed them all...
With that, Sidon's bright and cheerful demeanor at the start of class had faded rather significantly, but he finished with his best attempt to shake off the darkness of the topic with another smile.
"And that," he said, "is a brief overview of stals, what they are, and how they came to be, and also while we can be quite comfortable in knowing we need not worry about this one," he gestured toward the desk, "here today."
Well, at least not until he gave it to Liliana, which was definitely a great idea, right?
"Are there any questions? If you'd like to come see the stal up close, I would encourage it, as it's also likely to give you a good idea some of the skeletal structure of lizalfos in general. And, of course, as always, if there are creatures like stals that you are familiar with that you would like to share your stories of, I would love to hear them."

Listen to the Lecture - Hylian Bestiary, 03/16.
And that might also explain why his needing to go back home to Zora's Domain to constantly defend it against lizalfos is so frequent.
More frequent than it used to be, these days, which certainly is....troubling, but Sidon is trying not to dwell on it too much.
