Paleontology, April 24th, 7th Period

There is a pile of Lego Mindstorms on each student's desk today.

"Okay, today, I want you guys to build robotic dinosaurs. And yes, you can keep your creations if you want," Tommy says. "Let me know if you need any help."

After a short pause, he adds. "Oh, and if anyone actually found anything prehistoric in the woods last week? Do tell."

Rory grinned. "Yeah, we're an ecclectic bunch. Why did you run away?"

She blushed, and added, "And let me know if I'm getting too personal at any point."

Molly chuckled. "Don't worry, I won't answer any questions I don't want to."

Working on her robot, she thought for a moment about how to explain why they ran away. "We actually ran away twice," she finally said. "The first time was because we found out that our parents were evil." She looked over at Rory. "And I mean, destroy all of humanity, evil." She turned back to her project.

"We tried to tell the police and some super hero types, but our parents controlled all of L.A. and a big chunk of California and we found out later they did something to the super people we told so that did no good. So," she shrugged, "we stopped them ourselves."

Molly focused on a fiddly bit of her robot as she continued talking. "And then we all - except for Chase - became wards of the state and they split us up and crime got bad because our parents weren't in charge anymore. So, we ran away again and started fighting the bad guys who were trying to take over in our parents' place."

Rory listened carefully as she poked parts into place on her wee robot.

"Wow," she remarked softly when Molly finished. "That's..." She shook her head. "Who's 'we'?"

Molly grinned. "My friends. Chase, Gert, Nico and Karolina." She decided to stick to the very basics and not get into the whole issue of Alex and who left and joined later.

"And are they all mutants, too?" Rory asked. "And what about this Chase guy? You keep adding the caveat 'except Chase.'"

Molly giggled when she thought of Chase. "Well, he was oldest out of all of us; seventeen when we ran away. He told the courts that he had an aunt he could go live with so he never became a ward of the state. And, the college thing... he's smart enough, he just isn't the college type. He could have gone, but he was twenty when the others decided they wanted to go and he just decided not to." Molly stopped working and thought for a moment. "Logan reminds me of Chase a lot," she said then went back to her project.

"And I'm the only mutant," she added.

Rory tilted her head. "Yeah, that sounds like Logan," she said with a small, fond smile. "Hmm. Okay, next question - what do you want to be when you're older?"

Molly gave Rory a wide smile. "A super hero," she said.

Rory grinned. "You know, six months ago, I would have scoffed. And now I just have to ask - what would your super name be?"

Molly giggled some more. "I sort of already have two, but they're more code names than super hero names. I don't know what I'd pick for a real super hero name though. I haven't really thought about it much." Which was a total lie.

"Let me know what you figure out," Rory said, smiling. "Okay, um...who are you close to here in Fandom?"

"Do you want the whole list?" Molly asked.

"No, but I know you're dating Blair and you're really close with Cam - is there anyone else who you want to mention?" Rory asked.

Molly thought for a moment. "Aeryn, Angel, Logan, Krycek, Callisto, Bridge... I could go on," she said, grinning. "But, Cam is my best friend and yeah, I'm dating Blair."

"That's good." Rory thought for a moment. "If you could advice to anyone who might read this, what would you say?"

"Advice about what?" she asked.

"Life. Words of wisdom, if you will," she replied.

Molly thought about it for a moment. Her parents had lied to her about themselves all her life. The authority figures that had tried to tell her what to do after that had really only ever caused more trouble and dressed it all up in pretty words.

"Don't just accept what people tell you," she finally said. "Make sure their actions match what they say."

"I like that," Rory grinned. "Anything else you'd like to add? We're pretty much done."

"Um, no. I can't think of anything else," Molly smiled. "I hope that was good enough for your class."
