"Well," Lana began. "This is a bit awkward. You see, I had planned to teach another semester of Sith Philosophy, but I put in the information for this class at a time when I was not quite myself. So instead, this is meant to be Jedi Philosophy. Which I do have some experience with, but have never exactly followed myself. So I imagine we're all in for an interesting class."

She spread her hands. "Still, we'll make do. So, let us begin with the standard first-week exercise: let me know your names, where you're from, and let's begin with what you know about the Jedi and what you hope to learn from this class."

She nodded to the first student to start.

"My name is Lana Beniko. You may call me Lana; I'm not terribly into titles. I come from a different galaxy than Earth, and currently reside on a planet named Odessen. We may take a trip there later to meet some actual Jedi. And you?"

Sakaki

If Sakaki looked a little tired, she was still a little portal-lagged, having just gotten back from home last night. But she tried to focus as she gave the teacher a nod.

"My name is Sakaki," she offered. "I'm from Japan. I don't know anything about the Jedi, so I guess I have a lot that I can learn."

Charlie Gale

"I'm Charlie Gale and I'm from Darsden East in Ontario - Canada," Charlie said cheerfully. "I know nothing about the Jedi and I'm sure my Aunties signed me up for this class, so I'm ready to learn whatever you want to teach!"

"Welcome, Charlie. Why do you think your Aunties might have signed you up for this?" Lana asked.

"Nice to meet you, Sakaki." Lana gave her a little bow. "I understand the Jedi, and the Sith for that matter, have a bit in common with some of your country's martial arts philosophies. I hope you can bring some insight to that."

"Oh you know, 'Philosophy, that sounds calming. Charlie could use something to settle her down'," Charlie said in her best Auntie voice. Which was pretty good. And something she would NEVER do around them.

"It's a good thing we're doing Jedi and not Sith philosophy, then," Lana said. "It should be a bit more calming. Although in my classes I encourage vigorous debate and discussion."

Charlie was not into a lot of vigorous anything - well, at least not school related anything. "I'm not sure I'm so much the calming type," she admitted. "But I'm happy to give it a try!"

"Maybe I'll teach Sith meditation next term, then." Lana smiled. "You might get on with that a bit better." But she had somehow signed herself up to teach Jedi things, so she was damned well going to teach Jedi things.

"Meditation doesn't sound quite my speed," Charlie admitted. "No offense intended."

"What about it doesn't work for you?" Lana asked.

"I'm not good at the whole sitting still quietly thing," Charlie admitted. "I'd rather be up playing music or dancing to it."

Lana nodded. "Have you ever tried moving meditation? Katas and battle meditation are two kinds I know of in my galaxy, and I believe there are some Earth martial arts that use it."

"I haven't," Charlie said. "Sounds interesting, though."

"I recommend it," Lana said. "If you'd like to try meditation and sitting still doesn't work, it may."

"I suppose when I get really lost in my playing it could be a little like a type of meditation," Charlie said.
