Hyrule History and Legends!; Friday, Second Period [12/02].

Although it was certainly not intentional, Sidon found his headfins draped in tinsel that day, merely from his head being close enough to the ceiling more often than not that they just naturally caught on the stuff draped from above, and they clung. But he hoped it at least looked quite festive and fetching, and maybe he'd even leave his newfound shiny drapery for the party later.

But, for now, there was a lesson to be had, a lesson about a certain sword, of which there was a (very poorly done) drawing of on the board that day.

"Hello, my eager little Hylian historians!" he greeted brightly from the front of the class, the tinsel itself seeming to gleam from the radiance of his smile. "Today, we talk about something briefly mentioned in last week's class, the weapon of the great Hero, the mysterious, the powerful Sword that Seals the Darkness!"

Imagining the applause that would naturally just come with such a reveal, Sidon dramatically motioned toward the drawing on the board, and then gave a faint chuckle.

"I assure you," he said with a charming admission of his lack of skills in drawing, "it doubtless looks much more impressive in person! Although I cannot tell you that for myself, and I have not seen the thing! In fact, no one has, for nearly one hundred years, when the Princess's own Champion wielded it last in the attempts to defeat Calamity Ganon as he rampaged through the kingdom of Hyrule as he did in the legends of old! That is a story for another time, but know this: it is said that, when the fight against the mighty terror faltered, and all things seemed as though they may be lost, it is said that the Princess Zelda whisked the Sword that Seals the Darkness away to a safe haven unknown, for the Hero to find once more when Hyrule once again faces its darkest hour. Thus, after all, the name, for when the true Hero wields this weapon once more, the darkness of Calamity Ganon will be sealed away...hopefully, once and for all! No one knows where in all of Hyrule is awaits, but it is said that, when the Hero returns, he will hear it calling to him and know where to find it.

"As mentioned in the last class, the Sword that Seals the Darkness is bound to the Hero of Hyrule since time immemorial, to be wielded by his hands when Hyrule needs him most. Can the sword be wielded by any other? That, I suppose, is unknown, although I must admit, should I happen across it some day, I would most certainly give it a try! Who knows? Perhaps it is he who finds the Sword that Seals the Darkness that is bound to be the one to wield it and become the Hero of Hyrule! It is a weapon shrouded in great mystery, but, I must admit, if it is to be summoned into power because Hyrule finds herself in great and desperate need, I am quite fine with it staying tucked away and hidden where it is, though perhaps he is already well overdue to see us out of our current predicament..."

He was quiet for a moment longer before offering a faint smile.

"Due to its secretive state," he concluded, "the Sword that Seals the Darkness is a very important legend of Hyrule, but one where there is not much to say. Some say it is just mere fancy, and such a weapon does not exist, especially in light of the fact that the sword wielded by the Princess's Champion one hundred years ago did, in fact, fail to Seal the Darkness at all, for the Darkness still lingers. Perhaps the sword of the long distant past has since been destroyed or lost to great span of time. I , personally, like to think that it is just not the Sword's time, but that time will come, and, when it does, we shall see it in all its glory!

"Now!" Beaming thanks to the rousing encouragement of his own words, Sidon clapped his hands together and opened his armed eagerly toward the class. "Let us hear your thoughts! What do you think of the legend of the Sword that Seals the Darkness? Are there tales of such mythical and powerful weapons in your own cultures? Let's share them, and perhaps ruminated on what makes legendary weapons so appealing and effective as stories and legends and whether or not there is any truth behind them."
