Beginner's Guide to Heroism, Wednesday - 2nd Period

Well, it was that timeof the week again for class and this time around there wasn't a holiday to keep it from happening!

"Welcome back, everyone," Jane said brightly. "I hope everyone enjoyed their time off from school."

With or without trips home. Who really knew?

"Last week had me thinking about another part of the whole hero thing and how it might affect the people you care about," she said. "Before I got all... Norse god-y, I did get kidnapped at least once because of my boyfriend. And some dangerous science, but mostly the Thor thing?"

Again: worst movie of the franchise.

"So, how would you prevent those sorts of things? A secret identity maybe? Or just always being on guard?"

Oh, boy. "Well," Gray said slowly, "my family has this rule. We have people in our lives, we're not, like, hermits, but we don't...let them in our house." Except Jane. This past weekend. Because she was from another universe so somehow Alastair had decided it was probably okay.

It probably helped that it was Raiden, whose personal tragedy was the reason they had that rule, who had asked, but Gray didn't know if Jane knew about any of that so he wasn't going to say anything about it.

"Our house has magical protections on it," he explained. "You have to have been there to even know where it is. So the people who want to hurt us don't have any incentive to hurt our loved ones if they can't tell them how to get to us in the first place." He paused, then admitted, "Of course, my brother's partner's apartment is also warded out the wazoo, but that wouldn't stop demons from snatching him off the street or something. But they know he can't lead them to Alastair, so they don't."

He did not mention the possibility of Joseph being used as bait for some reason.
