Hyrule History and Legends!; Friday, Second Period [10/28].

"Good morning, my eager Hylian historians!"

Sidon was, of course, naturally inclined to gesture quite a lot during his lectures, but now that there was a long black cloak draped from his broad shoulders, you can bet those gestures were going to be increasing tenfold, all in ways that better emphasized the dramatic flow and movement of said cloak. Clothing truly was something that Sidon had never bothered with much, but he was starting to see the advantages of a good cloak. He felt fantastic with this thing!

(Although it would be very ineffective were one to be swimming, he felt).

"I hope you're ready," he continued, with a pump of his fist that threw in a little extra elbow just to make the cloak flow a little better, "to explore another of Hyrule's wide and varied races, because today, we're traveling to the northwest, to just below the snowy, icy Hebra mountains, into the Tabantha Frontier, which we will discover is hope to the fine and feathered Rito!"

He (and the cloak) gestured toward the crudely drawn picture on the board that looked like some sort of chicken-stork-person hybrid, although Sidon was very proud of his detailing on the feathers, thank you.

"The Rito are quite avian in appearance, resembling birds in many aspects, from their exquisite feathers, their brilliant plumage, their sharp beaks, and their incredible talons! They are lead by a chieftain, usually an elder of the community who has earned the prestige and honor of such a title, and they are very skilled in not only their natural gift of flight, but also archery and song! If you truly want a treat, find a Rito and ask them about some of their traditional melodies and compositions, and your ears will thank you! They are taught to sing beautifully from a very young age, and they tend to tell their stories and legends through these songs. They also tend to have an aesthetic, in their clothing and designs, that compliment more earth tones and the use of feathers and beads in their designs that are truly quite fetching and immediately bring to mind the beauty of the Tabantha Frontier, surrounded by tall and aromatic pines and grassy knolls and towering stone peaks! They not only utilize bows, but also quite often spears, in their arsenals, and they are certainly a good place to go if one looks to find clothing for the colder climate of the Hebra Mountains to the north, as Rito down is said to be most excellent at keeping one warm and comfortable! I, in fact, have a Rito-down coat to help me with the cold winters here on the island, though, I must say, it cuts not nearly as dramatic a figure as this cloak!"

Which he took a moment to swish again, just a little, before moving along.

"It is said that they have very poor sight at night, and so they tend to avoid poorly-lit places. Like birds of prey, they prefer to eat fresh fish and meat, though they have much more tolerable stomachs for other food than us Zora!

"They make their home in the Rito Village, built upon one of the massive outcroppings of land looming over Lake Totori. There is a great spire of stone that reaches far up into the heavens, as well, and it around this spire that the Rito have built their huts, which are not, as one might expect, too dissimilar to nests settled on the branches of some magnificent tree!

"I have also heard a very rare whisper of a rumor that, perhaps the Rito are descended from my own people, the Zora, which is a very....interesting idea, is it not, especially since we are so different, one being of the air, the other of the sea! Perhaps its oddity is the reason it does not...hold much water, so to speak, but what a fascinating thought!

"In the time of the Great Calamity, the Rito were gifted the Divine Beast Vah Medoh, and, to pilot it, they had a champion by the name of Revali, who was known not only for his skill for a bow, but especially for his skill in flight. He is absolutely legendary in his ability to fly and his masterful aerial techniques, and they revere their fallen Champion to this day by naming the large platform from which the Rito take to the sky after him. Unfortunately, there has not been much use of Revali's Landing these days, as they have been currently having quite a bit of trouble with Vah Medoh, who circles in the sky over Rito Village like a bad omen, sending out bolts of terrible lightning toward anyone who might fly too close! It is more than a little distressing, if I'm entirely honest, and I do hope they may find a solution soon! I myself might love to help, but the air is not my specialty, and lightning is actually quite deadly to even the strongest of Zora.

"Now," Sidon's voice went a little more serious for a moment, "I know that is not the most uplifting note to end on, but it is, alas, a harsh reality of the state of Hyrule today, one that any potential traveler should be quite aware of. The influence of Calamity Ganon, which we will discuss in more detail in a future class, is everywhere, sometimes in small reminders, and sometimes, in the case of the Rito, in large, looming, and inescapable ones. But I do not wish to have us end on such a somber reminder. For today, using the wonderful technology afforded to us in this world, I have for you recordings of some of the magnificent Rito songs! And so today, we will listen to some of them, and discuss, and I'd like, if you feel comfortable, to share with us all your own songs, should you have them, or at least share with us any sort of musical tradition you may have in your own cultures. That sounds much better than such a focus on looming doom and gloom, now, doesn't it?"

Jo listened, rather enthralled by the music, "well mother made sure that I grew up listening to classical music, she said it was important for my education," Jo explained, "she did try teaching me how to play the piano,"

It was one of the few times that her mother had actually spent time with her.
