Political Campaigning (Thursday, April 20, 4th period)

Josh stopped his work on the Washington Post crossword puzzle as the class arrived. "Okay--last thing to talk about and then I'll let you break into groups and work on your final projects."

He pointed to the board where he had scrawled GOTV in huge letters. "Get out the vote," he said. "Because everything else you've done the rest of the campaign is absolutely pointless if they people you've convinced don't show up. By the time GOTV begins, you should know to the house where your voters live. You should know their names, if they need a babysitter for their kids to vote, if they need a ride to the polls. You should be able to print off a list of all of your voters and check them off as they go past your poll worker at their correct precincts. You should have absolutely nothing to do on Election Day but bug these people until your guy crosses their names off of the list. Call them. Knock on their doors. Do both at the same time. It's a fantastic system called 'knock and drag.' 'Have you voted yet? No? Let me give you a ride. Bring the kids, whatever.' Get. that. voter. to. the. polls."

Josh shrugged. "Otherwise it's game over. Every single vote counts--this has been made abundantly clear in recent years. The average winning Senate campaign raised and spent $6.5 million last cycle--it's stupid to waste that kind of money by not following through at the end."

Rory was there. So was her laptop. Wheee.

Angel? Sitting near Rory.

No, he didn't care if technically on Thursdays he worked with Logan's group.

Rory looked at him sidelong, trying not to let anything about nuns enter her mind and failing miserably.

"So," she said, clicking on her browser and blushing as her prom accessories came up. "Yay, Morrison." She paused. "Do you normally work with us on Thursdays?"

"Don't I?" Angel looked innocent. Granted this was hard when you weren't making eye contact. "Pretty sure I do."

"I thought you were with the others on Thursday...." Rory said thoughtfully. "But I might've gotten my days mixed up."

"Nope, pretty sure Thursdays are with you," Angel said. He may have poked a hole through his notebook paper with his pen. "Oops."

Rory glanced over. "What are you doing?"

Angel looked down at the stick figure drawing from ACJ that he'd just stabbed with a pen. "Staking myself."

Rory stared. "...um. Do I need to be worried?"

Angel rubbed his eyes tiredly. Unfortunately this only reminded him of Veronica's notes in first period.

"I'm having a long - whaddyacallit? - life."

"Want to talk about it?"

Re: Morrison people

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Angel put his pen down. "Why can't we just get do-overs? That's what I want to know. Go back in time, slap yourself before doing something stupid."

"It'd be too easy and we'd never learn anything," Rory said, shrugging. "If we could undo our mistakes, we'd just keep repeating them."

"We could write little notes though," Angel said. "Stick a post-it on the bathroom door so we see it first thing every morning and remember oh yeah, that'd be a dumb thing to do. Better not do it."

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"But see, you could just go back and fix it. So what would stop you from doing it?" Rory asked. "Sure, there'd be foresight. But what good is that if you don't have the cautionary experience to back it up?"

"I suppose," Angel sighed.

"So what did you do?" Rory asked, calling up her notes on Morrison on her computer.

Angel glanced over where Logan and Elizabeth would be working. "I wouldn't even know where to begin."

Re: Morrison people

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I'm sure it's not as bad as you think," Rory replied.

Re: Morrison people

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Could be worse," Angel agreed.

As for example:

Callisto could've killed him.

or

Logan could have found out about this.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"So look on the bright side!" Rory said, smiling. "It can always be worse."

Re: Morrison people

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yep," Angel said, perking up. "There's always another level of hell."
