Office hours, office #5

Hannibal hadn't bothered to ask for a new office; his old one would do just fine. It had a nice open window, perfect decor...hm, maybe actually a few years out of date, he should rectify that...and plenty of room to work.

It also had a new occupant, but details. He'd even let the man have the desk for the moment. He was in one of the armchairs instead, having made tea and put on light classical music. He was available if any of his students' guests wanted to speak with him.

He was ignoring Mr. Sims' occasional glowers in his direction.


Hannibal's office was open!

“Same here,” Professor Broom smiled, nodding as he took a seat, “I understand, I also wanted to thank you for looking after Liz these last few months, she’s …it hasn’t been easy for her,” he said softly.

Hannibal nodded. "I've done everything I can to give her a good foundation of support. I do think she's quite happy to have Prompto back, which has helped quite a bit."

Professor Broom nodded, “having Prompto back has helped tremendously,” he agreed, “I know she was worried about having to raise her daughter alone….I did want her to stay at the BPRD but she seems to be doing well with being back at Fandom,”

Hannibal debated how much to say, and eventually went with something that anyone who observed her could notice. "I think it's good for her here. Fewer reminders of things she'd rather not think of. Although it is good to know she has family with you."

Professor Broom did smile at that, "she always has a place with us, that will never change," he added, "I know my son would like it if she was still around, he's always been protective of her since she first came to stay with us but it's nice to know that she's not alone here,"

"She has many people who want to help," Hannibal said. "The challenge, as it is for many, is to ensure she believes that."

Professor Broom nodded, "I'm afraid that has always been a challenge for her," he admitted, "even when she first came to the BPRD, she was afraid ... it took two months before she would even open up and talk to anyone, that's why I sent her to Fandom ... I thought it would help her become more confident in her abilities,"

Sometimes it seemed to have worked but other times he wasn't sure.

Hannibal nodded. "That was part of the reason I wanted her to stay with me, in lieu of in-patient treatment. A familiar face to go with the structure." He smiled a little. "And I adore cooking for friends."

Professor Broom smiled at that, " based on what she's told me, it does seem to have worked for her ... having that additional support," he said, "I was never able to spend a lot of time cooking, between my research and looking after my son and keeping him out of trouble, which is a full time job on its own," he added with a twinkle in his eye.

"I've only heard a few stories, but I can imagine," Hannibal said. "You must come and visit while you're here, both of you. I'll make dinner."

"I think I'll take you up on that offer," Professor Broom smiled, "thank you, I'll look forward to it,"

"Please do." Hannibal smiled back. "You can say hello to Rain, and I've two cats of my own." He thought that might be a selling point for Hellboy.

"I would definitely like to say hello to Rain, I know Hellboy would especially like to see her and the other cats as well," Professor Broom told him, "I think he's found a couple of people to show his photo album of his cats to," he added.

He's welcome to bring it with him," Hannibal said, amused. "It would be far from the worst presentation I've sat through."

"He will definitely do that," Professor Broom smiled fondly at that, "he's quite passionate about his cats, he'll talk for hours about them if he can,"

"Everyone should have at least one passion," Hannibal said. "I adore food and music." And killing people, but that wasn't a first-meeting kind of hobby.

“Mine has always been the occult, though for research purposes …I’m actually catholic myself,” Professor Broom added, fully aware of how ironic all of this was.

"I was raised Catholic as well, although it has been years since I went to church or confessed." Maybe he should do that just to give some priest a moral crisis.

"I always considered the occult to be an interesting but entirely academic pursuit, until I came to Fandom," Hannibal added. "Now I count nothing out entirely."
