"So today we're going to talk about a very important aspect of surviving heroics," Isabela said with a cheerful grin. "Teamwork!"

"You may have noticed that all those stories of noble heroic sacrifices almost inevitably involve a final lone stand," Aphra chipped in. "Emphasis on the lone and final."

"Whether it's shielding someone behind your strong, muscular form-" not that Isabela was thinking about any new members of the faculty in particular. "Or sneaking up to stab the person attacking that muscular form in the back, or even keeping those two from bleeding out, teamwork can mean the difference been life and death."

Somehow Aphra managed to refrain from pointing out that if all else failed, you just had to run faster than your erstwhile team-mates. Go her. It was almost growth. "Anyway, today you're going to group up and discuss what you bring to your team. Maybe it's smarts, maybe it's strength."

"Maybe it's raw sexual magnetism, they're all valid skills."

"Oh!" Graham said happily, because they'd covered this last week in one of his other classes, too. "I know this one! I bring plenty of courage, wisdom, and compassion to the table, plus, I'm a great storyteller with a good sense of humor, I have a minor in costuming, and I can fit just about anything, including a whole person, into my cloak! There's usually jelly beans in there, too, and I have a trusty and faithful steed that I can call upon in times of need to providing a daring rescue or escape! I've got plenty of skills, ready and willing at the team's disposal!"

Not to mention that enthusiasm, people! Look at it go!

"I'm definitely not the one who does the fighting," Beta said softly. She was generally the one who got the 'get behind me' instruction if she hadn't already found someplace to hide from face-eating metal panthers or the flying shrapnel thereof. "I'm... actually not sure how much use I'd be in most cases."

Given that all her education had been for one very specific purpose so far.

Charlie might not be able to read the narrative, but she knew Graham. "And your enthusiasm," she pointed out. "You always seem willing to try just about anything. An the rest as well though I didn't know about your being able to fit another person into your cloak. That's awesome!"

Charlie considered Beta. "I think you're probably good at lots of things you don't realize," she said. "I bet you're very observant of everything around you."

Charlie thought about that. "Well, I can do basic healing, I guess, and take people places quickly."

She considered a little more tilting her head from side to side. "I've got a song for most occasions, but pretty much I'm one of the more useless of the Gale girls, unless I'm playing taxi."

"It is awesome," Graham grinned proudly, taking a moment to hold the cloak out with one arm and gave it a little shake, all those deep, deep pockets nary to even be seen!, "isn't it? My mom made it special for me!"

His other arm gestured grandly at the displayed cloak, like a salesman showing off some spiffy new used car.

"You won't even believe the pocket space in this thing! You can even give it a try, see for yourself, if you'd like!"

Graham had been dying for someone to finally bite on him casting that cloak line put there, so there was no way he was going to pass up the chance when it presented itself.

"Maybe," Beta allowed, though she wasn't quite sure about that; a healthy portion of hyperfocus seemed to come with the Sobeck genes, usually at the expense of social interaction.

Maybe when they weren't so busy figuring out how to stop the world from ending, that might be different. Maybe she'd get a chance to find out.
