The Adventuring Life, Friday Period 3
Yennefer went straight into it today with, "Before you take to the open road for a life of adventure and ill-thought-out life choices," but she repeated herself, "you need to sort out the boring, practical considerations. Namely: how are you going to pay your way? If you're independently wealthy, congratulations! Otherwise, things are more complicated."
"You could find a patron," Jaskier suggested. "Which is a wealthy person who finds your work fulfilling and, as such, pays you to continue it."
That was a sugar daddy, Jaskier. Or mommy. Could be either.
"Or you could earn money by working as you go, which means you will need either an idea of what types of menial labor are available or else a skilled trade," Yennefer said. "Ideally one that does not require a great deal of equipment, as you will have to bring it with you."
"Busking works!" No, Jaskier. No. "Or find travel companions to split costs?"
"Is that what you call it?" Yennefer asked archly before turning to address the class. "In worlds such as this one you might be better served by 'remote work' on one of those laptop computer things than attempting to make your living from a lute." Did they even have lutes here? "But this is an area that is more realm-specific. What could you do where you plan to be? What skills do you bring to the table?"

Are you seriously going with busking?

Even Alva at least knew how to handle a bow in self-defense even if she'd never be on Aloy or Kotallo or Erend's level, even on Zo's. All Beta really knew how to do was find a relatively safe place to huddle until someone told her it was clear.
"I don't have any ideas what I could do that would be marketable," she admitted. Who was going to need, say, advanced code debugging from some itinerant random kid anyway?
