Hyrule History and Legends!; Friday, Second Period [09/02].

"Good morning, everyone!" As expected, Sidon was quite full of the usual excitement and eagerness to get to teaching some of his favorite students (simply by the virtue of the fact that they were, in fact, his students) about his favorite place ever (simply by virtue of the fact that it was, you know, his home). "And welcome back! Now that we've all had our introductions, it's time to start diving in to the deep and rich history of Hyrule together! And, truly, one of the most difficult questions one must ask oneself in such a situation is simply: where does one begin?

"Thankfully," said Sidon, now flashing the students a toothy, shining grin, "the answer is just as simple: one begins at the beginning!

"Now, Hyrule, of course, is a very ancient land that has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, stretching far back beyond even the Zora's long memory, and so much of our history has fallen naturally into legend, but from what we can gather from relics of the past, it is believed that Hyrule was created by three Golden Goddesses: Din, the goddess of Power; Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom; and Farore, the Goddess of Courage. And though not much is known about these three fantastical figures to which we owe our existence, there are signs of them scattered throughout the land, especially in the form of the the three shrines dedicated to them and the elements that are associated with them. Some have even made claims that their spirits still roam around the skies over Hyrule, watching over it and protecting it, in the form of three mighty dragons, though sightings of said dragons are few and far between. And even though I myself have never seen the Dragons of the Goddesses," here, he gave a faint, distant, but altogether fond sort of chuckle, "I have it on very good authority that they are certainly up there, but only a very special few are graced with the ability to behold them.

"How exactly they managed to form Hyrule from the chaos of the universe is unknown," Sidon continued easily, "though I believe that can be said of many worlds. Most of the ones I've encountered have some sort of holy being pulling together something from nothing to form a planet; there are also theories of science, that the universe pulled itself together quite naturally over eons of time, or perhaps in just a large flash of perfect elements. I would like to know, actually, in today's discussion, what myths of creation you have for how your own world was created, but we will get to that shortly.

"Because while the influence and mark of the Golden Goddesses are clear in many elements of Hylian history, and though they may still remain in spirit in the form of the dragons and their shrines, it is said that the goddesses created Hyrule, and then moved on, possibly to create other worlds, and, when doing so, turned to the goddess Hylia to become the protector of Hyrule. Essentially, each Goddess did her part to create a certain element of Hyrule: Din created the material realm, Nayru gave the realm law and order, and Farore created all life forms that would follow the said order, and they gathered all of that together and entrusted it to Hylia, who is much better known all around Hyrule, as is evidenced by the multitude of statues and shrines representing her in practically every corner of the land. In fact, here I have brought with me a small statue of Hylia herself for you all to see."

With that, he passed the statue to the nearest student in case they would like to have a look before sending it around the room for everyone to inspect.

"Where Hylia stands guard, you can be rest assured you are in good hands! And that, even in our darkest times, we still have the guidance of those who created Hyrule to help us serve and protect it!"

There was a smile at the end of that, expectantly eager and bright, but there was something a little distant about it, perhaps even a little forced, as he said those particular words, like he was still trying to convince himself to believe it. But it was a fleeting thing, just a small flash of doubt, quickly shoved aside for the task at hand.

"As I said," Sidon concluded, "it happened so long ago, that we don't know much about the creation of Hyrule, but we can speculate, and we have much evidence to support these speculations. Please, by all means, ask me any questions you may have, and, barring that, allow me to propose a question to you instead: what sorts of creation myths do you have where you are from? What sort of legends and history have been formed around its formation? Do you personally believe these myths to be true? What are your thoughts on such things? Let us discuss!"

"Well," said Libby, a little tentatively, as she usually was when it came to talking too much about her religion until she was more confident in how the people around her might respond, "in Christianity, we learn that God created the Earth in seven days, and, on the final day, he rested, and that's why we keep the Sabbath holy, and why it's important to respect and honor his creation by taking care of it while we're all here."
