Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

Sorry, Meeka. One room, but Charlie was neat and generally pretty low maintenance.

Hopefully that would balance out Meeka's woeful unpreparedness for dorm life?

"Charlie!" Meeka said, turning to face her new roommate. "I am pleased to share a living space with someone I have already gotten to know. I hope you will be patient with me, I have never 'roomed' with another."

Well, her maids and groomers slept in rooms that adjoined her suites, but those didn't count.

"I assure you, I shall adjust quickly to this new experience." It would just be, you know. A hell of an adjustment.

"Of course I'll be patient with you," Charlie said cheerfully. "At least we know each other, right?"

Charlie had probably lived through worse. Sometimes for a big ritual she might be sharing her room with five or six cousins.

The mountain of golden luggage might take up as much room as five or six cousins.

"Oh!" Meeka bent down and opened up one of her suitcases, if Charlie looked, she'd see that it was full of jewelry. Just tons and tons of jewelry. She plucked out a wrapped gift and handed it over to Charlie. "I had heard of the Big Sibling program and had gotten a gift for whomever was assigned to me," she explained, handing the gift over. "But I had brought a second just to be safe and so, I would like to give it to you, my roommate."

You know, totally normal roommate things.

Charlie's eyes went wide when she opened it. "That is... totally unexpected. It'e beautiful, Meeka, but not necessary, truly."

Meeka shook her head. "We are friends now," she said. "Gifts are as nothing between us."

"I can't reciprocate in kind," she said honestly. "But I'll do my best to be a good friend and roommate."

"Gifts are not meant to be held up and compared, especially in price," Meeka said with a shake of her head. "Gifts are meant to gladden the heart of both the giver and receiver. Your friendship is a gift to me."

Charlie smiled at her. "Then I thank you," she said. "And I think we're going to get along just fine."
