Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"Anything here should be safe," Hannibal said. "They rarely go out of their way to use exotic foods. Perhaps avoid the sprouts on top of the salad." He got out a thermos and poured her a drink and set a small tub of the nuts in front of her.

"How are you feeling?" He was aware this time was difficult for her, physically and mentally, particularly with the upcoming dates.

Liz nodded and bit her lip as she considered her answer, “tired,” she said softly, “I - I haven’t been sleeping well,” there was another pause, “I haven’t been sleeping at all,” she admitted.

"I've noticed," Hannibal said, not unkindly. "Is it nightmares, anxiety, or physical discomfort?"

Liz was quiet for a while. “anxiety and physical discomfort,” she admitted, “I’m …I’m scared of having a nightmare, being so close to the anniversaries,” she stared down at her camera.

Hannibal nodded. "Would hypnosis help? I could help you get to sleep."

Liz hesitated and then nodded, “I …I think I’d like to try,” she said quietly.

"Tonight, then," Hannibal said. He reached back into his bag and pulled out some prosciutto finger sandwiches for her, too. "If there's anything you'd like to plan for the anniversaries, please let me know. Whatever will help."

He had his own ideas, of course.

“Thank you,” Liz said softly, both for trying the hypnosis and the sandwiches, “and I will,” she told him, “i - I don’t really have any definite plans, I told Marc that I was thinking of going to the church here,” she hesitated, “last year I couldn’t go, I - I was still in custody,” she said quietly.

Hannibal nodded. "You're welcome. The church is there for people to use, after all. Are any of your friends back home religious?" He had a feeling Hellboy might not be, but you never knew.

“Abe’s not, Hellboy is in theory but I don’t think he’s particularly religious now, Professor Broom did raise him in the faith,” Liz told him quietly.

Hannibal nodded. "I was going to suggest you could have a friend accompany you to church. I'm afraid I'm not terribly religious myself."

Largely because he had too much of a god complex.

“I - I think Steven’s going to,” Liz told him softly, “he’s not Catholic but Marc said Steven can be with me, just so that I’m not alone for the anniversary,”
